Hi guys,
For any of you who might be interested in playing Family Feud for parties or social gatherings but can't find a reasonable way to display a functional game board, you'll want to download and try this. This isn't a game you actually play along with. It allows a person to control the answer board on a TV screen or projector.
I used this at a Christmas party last year and everyone loved it. It's still not finished but please give it a try and let me know what you think. It's based off of the 1976-1985 era of Family Feud.

WOW. WAY DAMN SLICK. :)
The extra little tap when a slide turns over is a particulaly nice touch. I could see this being a completely awesome tool if it gets completely tricked out. :)

WOW!!! You're awsome, I'm denfenitly going to use this at parties. Great Job!

That...was absolutely beautiful. Words cannot display how impressed I was with that presentation, esp. since I've been toying with the idea of doing a campus Feud, put on by the journalism majors. One of the best FlashGames I've ever seen! :-)
-
Absolutely awesome!

That IS beautimous. Thanks!

Is it just me, or did I have a lot of trouble downloading this file off the server it's on. Just pointing out a possible techinical issue, nothing against the program itself!

I don't think it's a technical issue so much as their server was just being particularly pissy this morning...I had a little more trouble today here at work than I did last night at home. It'll prolly clear itself up.

awesome!

I wrote a similar app in DHTML for an event this past April, but yours is nicer. I couldn't get DHTML to manipulate text to make it look like it was flipping, so I resorted to using JPGs instead-- which meant I had to create a JPG for each answer. Ugh!
Very nicely done. Time for me to learn Flash.

I love this software! Great job on the animations and sounds! I have just started playing with Flash a little bit and never knew it was that difficult... I really admire the work you've done on this!

I ain't gonna lie, this is pretty nice. I haven't seen anything like this before. I guess I wanna give you some suggestions if you plan to pursue this further:
Making it easier to input data by creating a stand-alone program is no biggie, and I wouldn't waste my time on it. The instructions seem clear enough, and people should do test runs of all the questions they use before they play, anyway.
Also, file size is really no issue. If you download the program one time, one should be able to wait however long they need too. The text files are small enough to be carried on a disk, if needed. To that end, go ahead and throw as much as you need onto it.
In terms of doing a Fast Money deal, if you programmed that whole board, I can't see it too much harder to do it. It may take some time like the regular game board. Here's what you can do: you'll have the first person play fast money. There will be someone at a computer typing the answers into the .txt files in abbreviated forms less than 12 characters long with their corresponding values while the projector is turned off or covered up. They'll save the files, and use a quick one-character-at-a-time reveal mechanism to reveal the answers. Then the projector will be turned back off for the next person, the file will be modified and the second set will be revealed. I don't know how feasible that is, but it seems a little easier than live type to screen flash. But you'll also need an inputter that's well coordinated with the host.
But again, you've done a bang-up job. Atta-boy.

Very nice job! One thing I would like to see is a segment at the beginning with the family intro music and main theme with the Fast Money Feud logo running like at the beginning of the show. Maybe the opening theme (where the families are introduced) can be played and looped until the operator pushes a button. At that time, the host intro music would play and the board would turn to show the animated fast money feud logo.

Mirroring for a couple of days for bandwidth's sake. Broadbanders, grab from here, it'll handle your phat pipes just fine.

Wow, I never thought people would actually care about this. Makes me want to finish it! I also appreciate all the suggestions. I take them very seriously.
TV Favorites, before too much longer I'm going to fix the intro. It'll start out with a blank screen. The next scene will be the oval-shaped Family Feud logo with the flashing lights flickering around it. The violin intro music will be playing. The next scene will rotate the board to the electronic side with the theme song playing. It'll animate and stay there until the first question comes up.
Anyone who wants to learn Flash or already knows Flash and wants to have my FLA file, you're welcome to it. This is my gift to the game show community.
Parliboy, thanks for mirroring this file. I use Doteasy as my web server. How long will it stay there?
-
Particleman, to sum up your board re-creation in one word: FANTASTIC. It's so realistic, I could've sworn I was watching the Dawson reruns on GSN. Keep up the great work! :)

Particleman,
This is GREAT. Probably the best game show related program I have ever downloaded/used. You have done an excellent job on this game control. I'm glad there is finally something out there like this. I don't know how many times I have said \"I wish there was a FF game control\", and I'm sure many others have said this as well. It is now a reality thanks to you.
I'm sure I speak for all of the game show community here by saying \"Thank you so much for sharing this with us\" and \"Keep up the good work\".

I absolutely love this program! The very real presentation made it look really cool when I flipped all the tiles at once. I loaded in a game for the 400-point format, but when it got to question 7, it went back to a blank Fast Money screen. When I hit PgDown again, it went to Q1. Is there a max of 6 set on this?

Are you sure you aren't a professional??? ;-)
That presentation was fantastic!!!! I hope to see more great presentations like that one in the future!!

I'll keep it there for a couple of days only, unless my stats program says it's still getting hit.
Yes, I absolutely want your FLA, and if it's not monstrous, I'll mirror it for a couple of days as well.
Hopefully you will finish this. It's something I'd very much like to have in reserve for an off-day in the classroom.
The question-writing module shouldn't be too hard to write. Maybe I'll use it as an excuse to learn VB a bit better, because it's probably better suited for that sort of thing.

Um...just checked the size of the fla file and some files associated with this program. It's huge. I need to trim it down a bit before I post it or mail it to someone.
I promise I'll keep on updating it. I have no plans of dropping this project. That is, unless married life sweeps me away!

Awsome Work. You deserve an award. Thanks so much!!! Now you just need to incorporate a buzzer effect in for wrong answers. Just assign the buzzer to the Zero key and it will make an incredibly awsome application even that much better.

Is there an easy way to convert this so both PC and Mac users can get this?

Well, if it is written in Flash, I would imagine (though I admit this is a guess) that the FLA file they speak of is the source code. Find a Macintosh version the Flash authoring tools, and I would bet that the source code could be compiled into a Mac executable.

Also, remember that the Zero key is used to reveal the 10th answer (if there is one).

Thought I'd throw in my kudos as well. Awesome, AWESOME, job!
Running scores for both sides would be neat, but I guess they don't fit on the screen in its current configuration. It's no biggie, anyway.

Particleman, I must concur with the consensus of this community: this is perhaps one of the finest homemade computer adaptations I have ever seen. All ya need to do now is make a Combs-era version.

One thing I do wish you'd add, upon further reflection, is a system to run simulated lock-out buzzers. I've been wanting to build some homebrew hand buzzers like at http://www.arcadeparadise.org/ (http://\"http://www.arcadeparadise.org/\") and this seems to be the perfect excuse.

Since we're talking about Family Feud here, I thought that you guys might enjoy this rendition of the FF logo on the Fast Money board. It took me a damn long time using the paint bucket on every single dot to create the pattern, so you'd better be happy :)

And to whoever put together the Flash piece...all I can say is WOW!!! Very very very nice.
