I'd like to know where WCAU got that date. NBC is all Olympics, all the time that week. Maybe not all the time; they'll find time for Brian Williams.
-
It's going to be integrated into the Olympics.

Tremendous.
You can take this silver medal, or ski jump one more time, for a gold, but remember, the East German banker may give you only a bronze. Deal or No Deal?????
The models could provide play by play. I'd watch them over Costas any day! :)
-
The Olympics end the 26th (According to the NBC Olympics Schedule) (http://\"http://www.nbcolympics.com/tv/index.html\"), so a 2/24 date isn't really feasible....plus the 24th is the Figure Skating "Champions Gala", so no way will NBC not show that. (although I'd more likely be watching the Curling finals)

I was watching on the digi cable a preview for curling just last night, and the two gals from the US...how do you say Mr. Lemon...they make me feel all funny all over.
I'd rather have Jim Lampley over Costas as the lead guy...coincidentally this Olympiad breaks a record..."Lamps" now has the distinction of having covered the most Olympiads ever.

Well, that certainly makes one of you, since it's pretty widely held in the sports broadcasting community that Jim Lampley is a complete and total hack.

Agreed. I've thought "Lamps" was a complete tool since seeing him on HBO in the early '90s (incidentally, another Jim, with the surname of Gray, ain't much better.).
-
Sportscasting incite or lack thereof time...lol
I find Costas a bit full of himself, meself...not that he doesn't have right to be, of course, but still...little guy with big ego...
To me Costas beats around the bush a little much, and that's not for me...Lamps is a little more to the point, hence a slight edge. But, I'll split the difference...how about Dan Hicks, the overnight guy for NBC getting some more air time?
All that said, both guys are in my opinion a little out of their best case scenario element.
Costas excels at baseball play by play. He lives and breathes the game and does the game justice. That said, if he got over his baseball purist ways a little (he still wishes the wild card was never created I'm sure), he'd maybe be holding Vin Scully's jock.
Lampley does a solid job of selling an event, no matter how crappy it turns out. Case in point again, HBO Boxing. He's not Howard Cosell or Don Dunphy, but he calls a fight with great enthusiasm and makes a ho hum fight worth watching. And anyone who can keep senile old Larry Merchant in line gets major kudos.
ObGameshows sorta: Costas was considered for 21...Lampley...well aside from an Eagle Eyes sunglasses infomercial, he twiddles his thumbs and finds new ways to break his surgically repaired hip.
Oh, and Chris, I think Jim's hair plugs need some work, lol.

Getting away from The Sports Machine...
Did any of our Philly area board inhabitants head to D&B to tryout tonight?
-
Alex Trebek used to do a lot of curling commentary back in the day. Since everything's on tape, why not have him cover the matches in post.

Got stuck at work until 9pm..figured it wasn't worth going to after that.
Anyone?

Entertained the hour-and-a-half drive to Philly to see what's going on, but figured it wasn't worth it. I didn't know if I had to bring the posse they ask for if you send a video audition.
There is an Amazing Race tryout today in Philly, too. It's on KYW's site somewhere. My brother and I swear that would win that show if we were put on, but he's up at school.

Interesting. For what it's worth, I noticed we're not the only ones wondering when the show will be back. Take a look at what one of our paper's general TV/radio columnists said:
NEWS, NO NEWS: Ever since NBC aired five nights of a new game show, "Deal or No Deal," the week before Christmas - with cable repeats - Inside TV & Radio has been getting nearly daily calls or e-mails asking what happened to Howie Mandel's version of a show that has successful versions in other countries.
First off, nothing happened. It was only scheduled to air five nights in the week before Christmas.
But, more importantly, the show is due back on NBC sometime in the spring, don't know where, don't know when.
http://www.jsonline.com/enter/tvradio/jan06/385981.asp (http://\"http://www.jsonline.com/enter/tvradio/jan06/385981.asp\")
I guess the show must be popular if the game show columnists online aren't the only ones being flooded with e-mails & calls.

If anyone cares, Canuck Don Chevrier, who's been around a long time, will be announcing curling for NBC. Someone named Don Duguid will be analyst and former Olympian Elfi Schlegel (speed skating?) will be the sideline reporter.
ObGameShow: "Sports Geniuses" host Matt Vasgersian will be announcing ski jumping. NBC didn't have anything for Summer Sanders this time, so you'll have to watch her play Samantha "Throaty McHuskington II" Harris on "Skating With Celebrities."

A piece on CBC indicates that she was to be on the Canadian gymnastics team in 1980, but Canada joined the U.S. and other nations in the boycott. She was turned down for a spot on the 1984 team.

Someone named Don Duguid? I must cry now. Several time world champion, longtime CBC curling analyst until he was booted from coverage because CBC's demos were skewing dead, he also did the Olympics for NBC in 2002.

I quite honestly have no idea in hell what you are talking about. If you think I was mocking the great sport of curling, there are several people here who can confirm that nothing could be further from the truth. I watch the Briar and the Tournament Of Hearts EVERY year on CBC, and I can vouch that I will be watching / Tivoing / whatever as much as I can get my hands on from Italy.

Lemon probably longs for the days when they used corn brooms to sweep the 'house', and the sound of same eminating from the ol' Granite Curling Club, eh? Now THAT was curling.

Donald Trump is changing addresses again, with "The Apprentice" moving to Monday where it will be preceded by the Howie Mandel-hosted game show "Deal or No Deal."

Hmm....that was actually a slot I really didn't think of, Mondays at 8...ABC is weak there, CBS's comedies do pretty well but not as well as the 9-10 shows...big thing is likely going to be FOX, because I think that's where they're going to put Prison Break once their celeb skating show ends...but I think this is going to spell the end for The Apprentice as I don't think it'll do well against 24...

I don''t have the info in front of me, but sweeps period doesn't end until the first of march ...so I was correct in my prediction that NBC would slot Deal the minute the olympics were done.
You know I do predict things for a living. Right or wrong, I still get paid.

*sigh*
Two weeks have passed, and the callback for DoND never came. It's understandable though, there were hundreds of people at the San Diego casting call. Glad to hear the show is coming back on a regular basis, though.
-
Even if The Donald flounders, he is down for at least one more "Apprentice" after this one (this will be the LA "Apprentice"), so don't count him out yet.
As for "DOND," I don't think its audience and "Prison Break"'s are the same, so they may not hurt each other. It could do damage on the lesser hour of the CBS sitcom block, but I could see it really doing damage on "Wife Swap," the only decent ratings performer ABC has on Monday night, what with "Emily" and "Jake" gone and "The Bachelor" treading water and playing out its contract. Howie should be happy he's not on at 9, where if "24" didn't kill him, "Two-and-a-Half Men" would.

Yes. By the time the first celebrity version airs in May, it will have had a regular spot for eight to ten weeks.
Mark me! There will be an all-star edition. 13 suitcases--all over $10000. The so-called stars will mock the game and tease Howie about the rules because it's fun to do so and entertaining to watch.

They could even up the celeb quotient by putting William Shatner's kidney stone in one of the cases. It recently fetched $25,000 (http://\"http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/18/people.shatner.ap/index.html\").
