Title: Dating Game 40th Anniversary
Post by: Passepartout on December 20, 2005, 06:11:08 PM
On December 20th 1965, then unknown writer and producer and future Gong Show host Chuck Barris would create his first game show hit.
Called the "Dating Game" with former Tennesse Ernie Ford sidekick and DJ Jim Lange as its original host.
The game was pretty simple:
Three handsome guys behind a screen would be asked questions by a pretty bachelorette.
On what the men were like and their personalities.
Whoever she choses, she gets to go out with the lucky guy.
They either go out on the night on the town or they go on a exotic vacation with a chaporone with them.
It ran from 1965-1973 on ABC.
Then in syndication from 1973-1974 & in 1978-1980.
It would also come up in syndication in the eighties briefly with Elaine Joyce and Jeff McGregor as hosts.

Aaron Handy III lives!!!! Don't forget the trivial footnote that Chuck's The Newlywed Game was cancelled (for the first time) on that day in 1974.
Oh, and The Dating Game returned for three seasons from 1996-99 with Brad Sherwood the first year {complete with sneak-peek video wall} and Chuck Woolery the following two years.
And, for Lord's sake, when July 3rd gets here and you do the Tic Tac Dough anniversary, tie games were not resolved with a tie-breaking toss-up on the CBS version except during Kids' Week.

Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of the finales of All Star Blitz and Your Number's Up, which AH3's second coming also did not mention.

One of the three posters above is not like the other....can you guess who it is?

Hint : he's the one without the Geoff Edwards fetish, the ability to be excrusiatingly annoying with his minutae, and he's the only one who's not on my ignore list.

By the way, for you second-graders who happen to be reading this as the result of a Google search, copying the above and printing it out as your report on television is not a good idea.
