Just before pop star Rihanna was introduced in this morning's parade, I recognized a familiar piece of music played to intro the zoo-themed float she appeared on...the music? The theme from 3's a Crowd, which longtime parade musical director Milton DeLugg also served in the same capacity for.

They've used that on the parade before. First time I noticed it was 1979 at the same time of the 3aC original run.

I heard it too. Pretty slick!

A lot of those parade cues are pretty darn old - some go back to the 80's - but you wonder exactly how much of the newer musical work on the show (mostly the musical arrangements for the Rockettes dances and singers, etc.) is Milt's and how much is that of his right-hand man for many years, John Rodby. Milt is getting up there in years (he's either 87 or 88 now) but it's nice that NBC is still taking care of him.
ObGameShow: John Rodby filled in for Milt as "Gong Show" bandleader for one week in 1976.

Rodby was also the composer/conductor for PBS's Square One TV, which had a lot of gs spoofs.
