If you go to this website http://www.talpa.tv/web/show/id=47822/progid=33 (http://\"http://www.talpa.tv/web/show/id=47822/progid=33\") and click on the "Selecteer een Aflevering" menu, you can watch episodes of Dutch "Deal" in it's entirety!
(Note: The episode is chopped into three separate segments. When one segment ends, it automatically goes to the next segment. The entire episode is there, trust me.)
I would strongly suggest you click on the one dated "zo 13-11-05".

Is it a bad thing that I knew the last question of the Sectioned Off Three Questions Section without translation help? ;-)

Thanks to Joe, I've been watching this for several weeks now, and it's extremely fun and entertaining. While I would have liked the quiz portion in the NBC version, I still enjoy the suitcase part greatly. It's fun and exciting to me at least. A bunch of us watched this at The Palace on Sunday, and we were all getting involved even though we didn't understand most of the stuff they were saying. By the end, you get the general idea, Deal or No Deal. Hopefully is has a great run on NBC and will get more than 5 shows.
-
I also heartily recommend Expeditie Robinson, which does all sorts of interesting things with the Expedition Robinson format.
-
Speaking of which, I remember someone mentioning here that there is a UK-based torrent site that has some UK game shows on it. While I would never download a television show over BitTorrent, because that would be illegal, I am still curious to know the URL of this site, so I can see what these unscrupulous people are offering.
(But, if you feel compelled to share this information, please do so off-list, unless our benevolent moderators give the okay to post it here. Because, you know, illegal.)

Which, of course, we know better as "Survivor."
Talpa is the new Dutch cable channel run by John DeMol, the ex-boss of Endemol (and yes, Linda DeMol's his sister). The most publicized thing it's done so far is take over the original version of "Big Brother" and then have the pregnant contestant who is the first reality show contestant anywhere in the world to give birth while being a contestant. (She left the house of her own accord after having the baby, complaining that the other housemates hated her.)
I also noticed that Talpa carries the Dutch version of "X Factor." Considering that Fremantle's parent company owns the RTL channels, Talpa's biggest private competitors, rather sporting of Fremantle to give Talpa the license for that show.

The site, which is for informational purposes only, is uknova.com. They have posted four episodes so far, which for novelty purposes I downloaded and for the mere purpose of testing my DVD burner then transferred onto several DVDs. The DVD burner could use some more testing, mostly to make sure the DVDs work on machines other than my own. And, of course, my DVD player should be tested for DVDs made from other models of DVD burners.
Of course, this is all hypothetical...

The only thing I don't like about Miljoenenjacht is the extensive qualifying round. It seems more elaborate than it needs to be.
After 3 questions, the one half of the audience with the highest score advances.
After 3 more questions, the highest scoring "vak," or group, of the winning half of the audience advances.
After 3 more questions, the highest scoring "blok," or block, of the winning vak advances.
From there, 5 people are randomly selected from that blok, and 1 person is selected at random from elsewhere in the audience.
Those 6 people then play a round similar to Pepsi's Play For a Billion. A player may ring in and accept one of 5 colored briefcases, which hold 2,000 euro to 22,000 euro, as a bailout. If not, a player is eliminated. (I think it's the low scorer in the preliminary games, but I'm not sure.)
Once the 6 are down to 2, the remaining 2 face off on one final question. The winner goes on to play Deal or No Deal.
All told, the qualifying round takes about a half hour to play.
That's an awful lot of trouble to go through just to determine the contestant. Plus it's unfair for people who did really well, but were surrounded by goombahs. I don't even know how they determine the twenty-five sub-players. Why don't they just do 5 or ten questions and have the highest scoring person play?
-
The 6 to 1 bit:
Clues flash up on the screen. If you know what they're about, buzz in. If you're correct you get to secretly eliminate another contestant by pushing one of five yellow buttons on your desk (representing the five other players). When they've locked their choice in, everyone gets about five seconds to decide if they want to bail out or not and pick a suitcase, knowing that if they don't and they get eliminated then they walk away from the game with no prize and have to hope to beat the odds and guess the value of their case later.
The final two people face off in a temptation - if they want, one of them can bail out and take a very good mystery prize. But if nobody takes it then the winner is determined by a tough multiple choice buzzer question, and the mystery prize is given away to someone in the audience.
I think the five people chosen to play the 6-1 round were the five best from the winning block over the opening nine questions (and the sixth randomly chosen contestant), but I'm not sure.
The final 25 holding the briefcases is everyone from the winning blok plus the randomly selected person chosen to play in the 6-1 game. If somebody takes a temptation (although not, it seems, if they bail out of the 6-1 game) they are replaced by a random member of the audience.
For the uninitiated, when the player asks for a briefcase to be opened, the player holding the case can make a aguess as to what's inside. If they're correct, they win 1,000 Euros for each unopened case at the time (so there's still some quite big money to be won if you beat the odds).
-
It looks intresting. Couldn't understand what was said but when they went to the main focus of the game which are the suitcases, that's what picqued my intrests. At least our version does away with the quizzing part. Wonder how contestants are picked to go for the big bucks?
-
That music when the ladies enter the stage with those briefcases is pulse-pounding. Hope they use that on the upcoming version seen on these shores.

Not especially.
Think of the type of music that would be played at a strip club right before the 1st dancer hits the stage.

My friend described it as Elf music. I, myself, find it almost Winning Lines-esque. Very neat music.

I sat here and watched both eps...Well, I watched the first one in it's entirety...then skipped past the qualifiers on the second since IMO it kinda made things a bit slow and boring....but I was really into the "main" game, and even more so when I watched the "suggested" ep at the beginning of this thread...I now can't wait to see what NBC does with it....Certainly a must tivo while I'm at work the nights it will be on.
PS...Loved the main theme music on the show...wouldn't mind having it for my collection if it were availible.
Did I mention that I can't wait for NBC to get our version on!
-
Go here (http://\"http://pylp.fastpalaces.com/dondsoundpack.zip\"): In this pack I have a copy of the theme that I spliced together from 2 pieces of music from the show. It has a small applause track in the background, but it's as good as we may get unless the US uses the same theme.

Go here (http://\"http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=131OH7IWJ0N8F2SEDM91VAADB6\") for an extended and slightly cleaner edited cut of the song. It also has applause and rhythmic clapping from the audience.

Sorry it's been a few weeks since I have had a chance to read the boards for an extended period of time...
Thanks to to both of you for hooking me up...kinda gives me a fix if you know what I mean.
For anyone else who cares, it seems that the good folks over at talpa.tv have now instituted a website registration requirement to watch the shows on their site. I guess I'll have to learn to read their language if I wanna watch their show, eh?

For now, no. Here's a direct link to Talpa's live stream which doesn't require registration. (http://\"http://www.garnierstreamingmedia.com/asx/talpastream1.asp\")

I finally watched an episode of this on Talpa's site. Much as I'm not enjoying the Howie version's "Extreme Makeover" approach to choosing contestants, it seems to me like this 30-minute selection extravaganza has nothing to do with Deal or No Deal. But it does seem like it would make a terrific frontgame for 1 vs 100, or whatever it's going to be called here. To have 100 players whittled down to 1, who then plays against the rest...now, that makes sense to me.
-
The important thing to remember (possibly) is that Miljoenenjacht existed as a straight quiz with a 10m guider top prize before they added the whole Deal or No Deal briefcase element. The elimination quiz is pretty much a hangover from those days. The original quiz had 1000 people battling down to one, I believe.

Wow. I wish I'd been at the meeting when someone said, "Okay, this show's doin' great, but what we really need is a new end-game. What could we do that involves, I don't know, a bunch of suitcases?"
Of course, I wouldn't have understood most of what they were saying.

Ah, the direct link to the Talpa feed, one of my least-known yet farthest-reaching contributions on this here internet. Us Palace (http://\"http://pylp.fastpalaces.com\") people were watching MJ in November '05, before they instituted registration, and people were complaining about the sucky bandwidth. I decided to peek into the source code of the page and the data of the embedded video file within and found that the feed was originating from garnierstreamingmedia.com. I found I got better bandwidth and less buffering when I directly streamed it in WMP, and so did everyone else that day. And the previously hidden URL proliferated. I think it's now result #2 when you google "Talpa".
Oh, and you realize that post was done five months ago, yes?

Yeah, but (a) I'm behind the curve and (b) the whole 1-vs-100 thing got me thinking about it again.
