Here's more information on it too.  Looks like the 1984 syndicated premiere is included.  This definitely makes it worth the purchase.

Too bad you couldn't be bothered to read the article Curt posted.  But we both know that quantity is more important than quality, right?

Will there at least be a short homage to the original Fleming/Pardo version?

I am surprised that the DVD only includes Ken Jennings' 75th game.  Why couldn't the DVD have at least 5 shows devoted to Ken Jennings' reign, like the time he reaches the $2 million mark, or the show where he becomes the King of Gameshow winnings?

Pyramid80: The way you phrased your first reply made it look like you were reporting the inclusion of Trebek's first episode as additional info found only at the link you were adding.

This post has been brought to you by a calm, relaxed reading of both links and a rereading of this thread. Thank you.

P.S.: That "press release" is a mess. Typos everywhere--and it wouldn't be Jeopardy! without disappointing math:

Quote
The single disc DVD contains five of the most-watched episodes from the wildly popular game show including Alex Trebek's premiere episode, the first and last episodes of Ken Jennings' famous winning streak, and all three episodes from the 2005 Ultimate Tournament of Champions.

1, 2, 3 . . . carry the 8 . . .

Well, maybe, but people did give a rat's ass about Charles Van Doren (until he got caught). I'm not sure about Thom Mckee, but why not Ken?

BTW, Ken's first episode won't be included. Now Jeopardy's math seems to be right for a change.

I know I'm bumping a several-months old thread with this post, however I have a bit of self-promotion relative to the thread.  I recently had the opportunity to review a copy of the DVD for Sitcoms Online. (The site having long since moved away from sitcom exclusivity in terms of review choices)

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/jeopardyinsid...kdvdreview.html (http://\"http://www.sitcomsonline.com/jeopardyinsidelookdvdreview.html\")

...is the link.   Overall, it's a surprisingly well-done set given the subject matter (scattered episodes of a game show) and the past history of at-best "suitable" releases from Sony (Seinfeld was well-done, as were a few other shows, but most releases tend to be Episodes-only, the end).

And for those who would seek to throw a fit at such things: The fee plugs at the end of show were cut out - though in 4 of 5 episodes' cases, that simply amounts to removing miniature commercials.

Seth, did you lift those names from the Archive (http://\"http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=173\")?

If so, when do I get my royalty check?

And if not, how the heck did I actually get Frank's name right? ;)

Caught red-handed :(

Royalty check coming roughly around the time I get my paycheck...oh wait, I don't get paid.   :p

I did cross-check the audio versus the name being announced, they sounded close, so I ran with it.

I have asked for a credit to the J! Archive to be edited into the review...see,  I do so have minimal journalistic ethics, they just take a while to kick in :-P

Hey im intrested in buying a copy of this but im confussed by RCE R1 encoding and wondering if Sony has stuck it on this disk

Here (http://\"http://www.playusa.com/playusa.asp?page=title&r=R1&title=819565&id=0&adudisc=y&cpage=1&Cur=513\")

Thats where im getting it anyway.

What Sony could have done is sold new fee plugs and inserted them in seamlessly for a profit.  The fee plug fans would be happy and Sony would have made a little more money.

Yeah, you can pretty much bank on it being a Region 1 DVD, since it's being released by a major publisher in North America. If you have a DVD player that is region-free (or can be hacked to be so, which is more likely to be the case, if at all), you're good. If you plan to watch it through the DVD-ROM drive in your computer, there are ways to make that ignore the region settings as well.

But the UK is Region 2, and so most DVD players sold there will only watch Region 2 DVD's. You'd have to hack it (through a simple remote code or firmware change) to make it be able to watch Region 1, in all likelyhood.

If you'd like to share the brand and model of your DVD player, I could check what I know and see if it's easily hackable. We have other people here who know how to find such things too.

Most DVD players sold here now are hackable or have no region encoded at all, thats the good thing about living here a cheap dvd player can be picked up for the cost of 2 DVD movies, I picked up a DIVX and XVID player which was also regionless for £25 thats like 2 DVD's for a very feature rich dvd player.

Im more worried about RCE which ive never come across before in buying loads and loads of Region 1 and NTSC encoded DVD's

Ill just have to see or get a copy of DVD region free for my computer if they dont work on my 8 DVD players I have around the house.

Ok, okay, I see what yer saying now, I thought you were unclear on how region coding worked. I did not know about this RCE nonsense.

I did find this site:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/rce.html (http://\"http://www.dvdtalk.com/rce.html\")

that has a list of players which is not subject to RCE restrictions.

Well, at worst, you should be able to watch it on a PC. I doubt seriously that anyone from Colombia will mention officially if it's RCE'd or not simply because the only people for which that information would be useful are those trying to get around the region coding in the first place, and why help them, right? :)

Indeed im glad the new formats Blu Ray and HD-DVD even if theres a format war atleast they decided on no region encoding at all.

I was hoping for the person who reviewed it who mentioned in a earlier post it might of been mentioned on the back of the DVD case or something.

Assuming it's a Colombia/Tristar release, it seems safe to assume it will, I would think...once their mastering people have the technology, I can't see it being any extra work to just put it on everything they put out, and I can't see the cost to the company being any greater as a result. Why WOULDN'T they?
