Craig'slist and Buzzer are reporting that Distraction has been renewed for a 2nd season. I know the show had a lot of mixed opinions, but I was at least happy about this decision. Here's the link to become a contestant. You know where buzzer is.

Well, with this, Lingo's new season, and the Ken Jenning's project, at least cable seems to be up-and-coming with shows. Then there's Deal or No Deal. This might work.
-
Yeah, this could be the beginning of a slight upsurge on the game show cycle after a couple "down" years. Cable's always trying to be upfront in regards to this genre. It won't be long before the syndies start to play catch-up in that regard.
-
Distraction has moved to the 2PM-3PM revolving show time slot on Comedy Central for now as well. Now it's time for me to start hoping for more variety next season for the mini games. I'm just hoping they include that cacti buzzer round.

Maybe I'm sick, but as much as I consider myself a game show traditionalist, I really enjoy this show. Jimmy Carr is hilarious, and I suppose seeing contestants tortured is my idea of fun.
I noticed that the UK edition was more cruel than ours, and I wonder if some of that will change in the new season or if the producers might think US TV isn't quite ready for drinking your own pee.
God...I hate myself for defending this show.

When I read the previews for "Distraction", I had flashbacks of "The Chamber" and wrote it off. This has to be the best example of a show (or movie) proving me wrong. It's one of my new guilty pleasures...and it gives away a new car! ;-)

I wouldn't hate myself if I was defending it, which I do. It's not a bad show- actually, for me at least, I really enjoy it. I would hope that they'd try to keep some of the stuff on the UK version off the US version, especially the piss-drinking. (The US version could also do without the rubberbands on the face- that one freaks me out) But still, it's nice to see Distraction coming back for a second year.

I liked "Distraction", and think Jimmy Carr is a great host. His stand up is even better....
I wonder why CCentral wouldn't want to bring over the UK version as well, just to keep the 'season' going longer?

Speaking of cable game shows, I'd kinda like to see Dirty Rotten Cheater return. It's getting harder and harder to come up with new ideas in the genre (thank God no show has been introduced where the losers get the death penalty!), but I really liked the twist where one player secretly had all the answers. I thought it deserved a longer life, but that's my $0.02.

What did you expect from a PAX/i game show?

Am I the only one who dislikes Distraction? I mean, it's a bare-bones quiz show where people can do painful or embarrassing things in the end to walk away with either Rice a Roni or a severely dented car. Not really my "cup of tea".

I don't go out of my way to watch it, either, but I will issue my standard reminder that the contestants on the show know full well they're not trying out for Jeopardy. They're not only willing, but excited about being humiliated on television for a few minutes of "fame" and a beaten-up electric mixer, so I don't have any sympathy for them.
And Jimmy Carr's one of my favorite comics to come along in the last few years.

Kinda dry show to be honest. Britain's The Enemy Within is a better executed concept with better production values.

See, I HATED Enemy Within, where I merely tolerated DRC. Enemy just bored me to tears. I dunno, your mileage may vary.

I haven't seen that show, so I can't comment one way or another. True, DRC could stand a bit of excitement. Chris L, excuse me, but this is one instance when bumping the prize budget WAY up might do it. But, I concede that even if it were in prime time on a major network, it might not be a feasible thing to do in terms of available budget. A second possibility might involve setting up the possibility that no one wins the prize money at the end. Any other bright ideers?

Make it a 30-minute show, and maybe just reduce the number of contestants. It seemed to drag on and on as an hour-long show.

While I ashamedly do like doctor's the idea of upping the stakes, I think the other Brandon's idea would make a much better show. I think I thought it was so dry because it just lasted so long.

Probably the problem of having edit out five minutes of program to fit a U.S. cable half-hour--especially when some of Carr's contestant interviews are the funniest things on some episodes. ("Enemy Within" ran edited with minimal damage, but they had the home viewer game mentions as obvious places to edit.) Granted, they could run it over a half-hour to not edit it, like they did with "AbFab," but what could they use to fill out the rest of the hour? Gags Americans could get from Carr's other UK show, "Eight Out of Ten Cats" (which is a sort of panel quiz like "Have I Got News for You")? "Shorties Watching Shorties" modules? (With "AbFab," they were able to use sketches from "The French and Saunders Show" to fill out the hour.)
