Hey guys. Just got an e-mail from the production staff. The pilot date has been officially set for KEN JENNINGS VS. THE REST OF THE WORLD. (Yes, that is the title they gave the show.) It's going to be this Tuesday, July 26 at 2PM at the Manhattan Ensemble Theater in NYC.
Given that I tried out for the run-thrus, I've been invited to be in the audience for the show. Unfortunately, they're not going to be taping this for Comedy Central or anything, so there's no way to get a tape of the pilot. No cameras due to the small budget, as I've been told. But, I will be fully prepared to give a report of the goings on to you after the show.
Should be exciting. What do you guys suspect the format is gonna be like?

Call it a hunch, but I suspect it's going to be Ken Jennings competing against contestants in a variety of trivia-style minigames.

No cameras? How are they going to show this pilot to the suits and focus groups with no cameras to record the action?
-
I just get the feeling that it sounds like it's gonna be somewhat similar to Win Ben Stein's Money. While I am at it, I heard through the grapevine that the Atlanta GA station that runs Jeopardy is running Jennings show over again? Wonder what kind of Nielsens a 2nd run of Jeopardy is pulling?
Anyhow, back to the topic, when is the actual premiere of the show gonna be?

You're full of it, Chris.
The producer will go out to the street and pick an occupied taxicab at random. The passenger will be taken into the theatre where he will bid on a pair of water skis. Irrespective of his bid, he will then proceed to the stage where there will be a table with four giant-size replicas of half walnut shells. Under one of the shells is Ken Jennings' head. The emcee will shuffle the shells and the contestant will choose one.
Trivia games ... pffft.
No, no, wait ...
Ben Stien Ken Jennings will be staked with $5,000. Three contestants play a trivia game against Ben Stein Ken Jennings in an effort to win Ben Stein's Ken Jennings' money. Ben Stein Ken Jennings will then compete with a solo contestant in the end game.

Here's the answer (below is how I know) :
No word of cams for their use, but word is this is NOT a pilot. However, this show is as good as bought by CCentral. This will be the first time it's played in front of an audience, and the first time it'll be played with a set.
How do I know? I'm playing in the 'pilot'.
It's a neat game. Shades of Jep,Ben Stein, even Family Feud....but it's not 'mini' games. There's a set format that won't change from day to day. And no, Chris, It's not "Win Ken Jennings Money"....
New host....never been a host before....LA comic... I hadn't heard of him, and I doubt many of you have.
Playing the runthroughs (two of em) was fun, even if I can't be a contestant...and it was fun playing with Chuck Donegan. Or against him. Or us against Ken...whatever....it all plays into the format.
That's all i'm sayin' for now.....

Aw, man, Chuck played in the run-thrus? *sigh* See, you guys get to have all the fun.
Nevertheless, thanks for the input. And the only reason I called it a pilot is because that's how it was phrased to me when I got the e-mail today from them. I'm gonna have a blast watching it. And although it will be a bummer that it's not gonna be taped, I guess when CC has been riding on this from the beginning, you don't really have to. Still woulda been nice. Hey, maybe they'll let me take a video camera in. (j/k)
And BTW, Chris, you win the Golden DUH! Award for your answer to my initial question about the format.
-
Ken Jennings' "What Am I Wearing?"
Ken stands behind a screen. Four panelists question him in turn about what he is wearing.
If a panelist guesses only part of the answer, play passes to the next panelist. Example: a panelist guesses "hat" but the sought-after answer is "Napoleon-style hat".

i think its going to have Four studio audience members are invited to "come on down" to Contestants’ Row by the announcer at the show’s opening. They give one bid apiece on a prize, and the one closest to the actual retail price without going over wins it (and a $100 cash bonus if they hit it on the nose), and comes up on stage to play an additional pricing game for bigger, better prizes.
