Title: Elliott TTTT 5/24/05
Post by: clemon79 on May 24, 2005, 09:38:31 PM
A totally unknown (to most people, anyhow) pre-Spawn Todd McFarlane.

His true story was that had drawn (at the time, it may still be, I don't really follow comics anymore) the biggest selling issue of Amazing Spider-Man to date.

The kicker is, a year after this appearance, he would form Image Comics, start publishing Spawn, parlay that into a massive multimedia empire, and today has more money than God.

(His fake story, by the way, was that he was a cab driver who gave someone a ride home to New York from Vegas at the cost of $10,000.)

Sorry--didn't see this post before I posted my take in the Show Summaries board (thinking that's where a subject like this would've gone).

Mods, feel free to delete my post on the Show Summaries board since if I understand things correctly only mods can delete the first post of a thread.

While I'm on the subject, isn't McFarlane also notable for having bought some home run balls at auction?

MacFarlane bought Mark McGwire's 70th home run ball from 1998.  It did lose some of its potential value after Barry Bonds hit 73 in 2001.  According to this site (http://\"http://www.psacard.com/articles/article922.chtml\"), McFarlane also purchased McGwire home run balls 63, 67, 68, and 69, and Sammy Sosa home run balls 33, 61, and 66 (Sammy's final homer in '98).  I'm pretty sure McFarlane does not have Bonds' 73rd homer ball from '01.

Wow that's pretty cool.  I saw this episode but I didn't know he was the same guy that did all this stuff.
