Title: Sesame Street, brought to you by...
Post by: vtown7 on April 14, 2005, 11:12:42 PM
Just saw something bizarre on The Daily Show... apparently Ken popped up on Sesame Street's premiere this week.

Allegedly he's been overshadowed by the new "Cookie (is a sometimes food) Monster", but there you go.

Analyze at will, if you would like.

Cheers,

Ryan :)

Here are some pictures of Ken hanging with Big Bird, Grover, and a talking pineapple...

I just got done looking at those, and I'm willing to bet a lot of kids are asking the same question:

"Mommy, who's that nerdy looking guy standing next to Big Bird?"

No offense intended to Mr. Jennings, but he does look like a nerd.

1)  I'm not that sure how that makes him different from any other J! contestant.

2)  That's a +$2mil nerd, sir.  Taking Worthington's Law into consideration, that makes him better than a goodly portion of the GSB.

EDIT: Combined.[/b]

Just one more thing that Ken and I have in common.

(Meeting Big Bird, that is, not the $2mil.)

I wouldn't say a nerd just your typical average type of everyday guy perhaps!

"Today, kids, the Count and I are going to count to 2,522,700.  Ready...1, 2, 3..."

Sounds like a two-parter--possibly a pledge-drive stunt.

That's cute having Ken Jennings do Sesame Street.  Maybe Count Von Count should have counted the days he was on (75 wonderful days! Ha ha ha! (Thunder clapping)).

I'm surprised that I saw a news feature about some fans protesting over changing the Cookie Monster.  What's next, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles giving up pizza or even Brian the Dog (Family Guy) becomes sober & stops drinking martinis?

Caroll Spinney is a guy? For all these years I've thought it was a woman. Never really investigated it, just heard the name and voice and assumed.

How do you know any of the Muppets have gender at all? :)

(With the exceptions of Miss Piggy and Kermit, and Bert and Ernie, all of whom's sexual proclivities are well documented. ;))

Well I don't remember seeing as many pizzas on the current TMNT series.  Nothing, though, could be as traumatic as when Popeye the Sailor Man spoke these words: "Can the spinach, I wants me Quaker Oatmeal!"

And I don't think Sesame Street continuing to, ahem, give itself the Bob Barker treatment is shocking anymore.  Where oh where did the '70s and '80s go?!!?  P.S. they had it in for Cookie Monster ever since he sang "Healthy Food"

EDIT: I knew that reminded me of something...

Oh well, at least nothing has happened as crazy as, say, the Looney Tunes being turned into anime-style superheroes...oh wait...

ObGameShow: Um...well...I think "Popeye" was the "P" word in an Alphabetics on PW+ recently shown on GSN...

Well fine, but they never made a movie about Oscar, so I never knew that. :)

It's just one of those strange holes in my upbringing, I knew who was the voice of every single character on the Muppet Show, but not for Sesame St.

Could be an age thing, too. Lotta you young whippersnappers grew up on The Muppets more than you did Sesame Street.

ObGS: Kermit The Frog was on HS. One of the other stars was doing a mic check, and counting: "One, two, three, four." Without missing a beat, Kermit comments: "I taught him that." :)

Just an off topic reply... as evidenced by a skit with Ernie and Elmo singing about sharing, NOBODY should attempt to sing harmony with Elmo. The song sounds like a vocal train wreck.

Speaking of Kermit the Frog, are his bits still featured on Sesame Street? I know they haven't done any new Kermit bits for a while. I think children are deprived not having a character like Kermit on the show.

If I could be on Sesame Street, I'd love to do a skit with Herry Monster. He was always one of my favorite muppets, and one of the most underused.

Back to game shows, does anyone know if Frank Oz did Miss Piggy's voice for the appearances she and Kermit made on HS? I know Frank Oz retired from Sesame Street, but I don't know if that also meant he handed Miss Piggy over to someone else.

The IMDB doesn't say who did (like that's a reputable source anyway!), but my guess it would have been Eric Jacobsen, who has also taken over most of Frank's voices on Sesame Street (except for Cookie Monster, who is played by David Rudman).  Eric does a passable job on the voices, but he hasn't really learned to fully control the characters yet - especially when it comes to ad-libbing/vocal inflections (his Bert/Fozzie is a good example).

I think a lot of the muppets had...how you say...less than stellar singing abilities. That's why I'm so glad the Carpenters covered two of their songs. ("Sing" and "The Rainbow Connection")

Although, I've always found the Muppets' performance of Kokomo to be superior. :)

Exactly. I've never been a die-hard fan of Sesame Street, but I could watch The Muppet Show for HOURS on end.
