On March 31, 1989, just one week after the end of $ale of the Century and Super Password, Card Sharks says farewell. Bob Eubanks gets teary eyed at the end. Now You See It with Chuck Henry replaced Card Sharks, effective that following Monday.
Card Sharks returned in reruns multiple times on GSN. It went first run for the first time in 12 years on September 17, 2001, but the ratings were horrible and didn't even last beyond a full year..
In all March 1989 was a emotional month for GS fans. Three Game Shows said farewell, 2 on NBC and 1 on CBS.

Luckily I didn't live where I live now, back in the '80s.
After August 4, 1980, the Harrisburg TV market missed out on every noon showing that NBC offered because "Noonday on 8" was moved from 12:30pm to noon. I'd have missed SP entirely, among others.

I remember calling for tickets to see this, figuring I'd catch a taping before it was cancelled.
I shouldn't have been suprised how fast it was pulled.

Ironically that was six days after the worst day in American history occured.
But I did remember when that happened when I was in eigth grade getting ready to go into ninth grade and taped it. I almost cried with him. Also the end of the game show era and the beginning of the talk show era.

There was NOTHING ironic about that.
I've said it before, and i'll say it again : You're developing a reputation here that isn't complimentary. You need to read more, and post less. That way, you might learn something.

It took a few reads and a couple of vodkas, but you're going back six days from the 21st Century premiere of Card Sharks on Monday, September 17th 2001 with this "ironic comparison", aren't you?
Why do I have the feeling you'll be hanging out with Ralph Story sometime soon?

Well done, Don! For the life of me, I couldn't figure out her statement, but I knew there was more to it than the others were seeing. Thanks for clearing that up.
Yet another example of the importance of correct quoting.

I wasn't sure if Aaron was kidding or not with his question (I had figured out what Shelby had meant even without proper quoting), so I made the supposition that he was (hence my little joke--not the funniest, but then again it wasn't all that witty either). If I confused anyone further with my remarks or seemed insensitive in any way, my apologies (and not my intention at all).

I actually wasn't kidding - she wasn't exactly specific in what she was quoting, so I actually thought she meant 3/25/89. I had to read her message a few more times before I realized she meant CS2001.

I think that this person is giving too much credence to 9/11 being the cause for Card Plankton (I don't want to call it Guppies, because I don't want to infringe) being cancelled. Now, maybe I'm misinterpreting his motives here, but CP would have died the death it did (now, was it 13 weeks? I seem to remember it going into reruns about January '02 in NYC) regardless of whether or not the terror attacks occured. Maybe the show was pre-empted in markets for the first few days due to the wall to wall news coverage a lot of local stations had in the days and weeks ahead...but I can be damn sure that the people who would have watched the show anyway would have been turned off, as the rest of the nation was.
Now, I may have completely gone off topic here, and if you guys feel like this needs to be killfiled, by all means do so. But that's my story.

She merely said that it was ironic that the show debuted so soon after the tragedy. You can argue with her use of "ironic" if you want, but don't put any more words in her mouth. She said nothing about 9/11 being the cause of the show's demise.

The first and only time I saw the show was on October 10 (my birthday...I took a day off from work for it). I watched the whole show, but thought it sucked. I completely agree with you. CS's demise wasn't 9/11, but rather CS itself.
