Title: GS ref on last night's (2/23) That 70s Show
Post by: ChuckNet on March 24, 2005, 01:54:30 PM
Last night's ep opened w/the gang playing a Password home game (it was clearly a very early edition...box was red, and featured that little cartoon w/the 2 couples on the box), Fez playing "Allen Ludden" to the teams of Eric/Donna and Hyde/Jackie.

The funniest moment came when Eric, from Donna's clue "staircase", came up w/"Jedi"...when asked how afterwards, he claimed because "there are steps to becoming a Jedi".

Chuck Donegan (The Illustrious "Chuckie Baby")

[/quote]Oh... my, no.  That wasn't a funny moment at all.  I don't know what has happened to this show.  Eric used to spend all his time trying to prove that he wasn't a limp-wristed Star Wars geek.  But in the last couple of years, the character has become exactly that.  Kind of sad really, as all sitcoms are near the end.

Always nice to see a GS reference, but that sure seems to be an oddly dated one.  I have a hard time picturing college-aged kids in the late 70s being all that interested in a rousing game of Password using a 1964 box game.

I dunno about that.  In 1979, I was in college and there used to be a rather large crowd of kids in the student lounge watching "Password Plus" during the lunch hour.  (This was before cable and the NBC station was the only one that would come in clearly in the lounge.)  I remember one fellow student turning to me and saying "I liked this show when they had the arrows that would come up."

I know a 1978 graduate whose interest in the game was suddenly rekindled in December of that year.
