What classic game show favorite don't you really like?
Ex. The Price is Right, Bullseye, Chain Reaction, Press Your Luck

Here's one that I'm expecting to be lynched for....
Whew.
Not necessarily bad, just very overrated.
Let the insults commence!

Perry Card Sharks...a little overrated IMO. It was OK, but I enjoyed the Eubanks version more. Maybe it's b/c I grew up on that version.
I expect to be stoned for that. :-)

"Match Game." I don't dislike the show, but it's not one of my all time favorites, either. Ditto with Dawson "Family Feud," although I'd much rather watch the Dawson version over the Anderson or Karn versions.

Lynch me for this, but I wasn't a big Combs FEUD fan. I know Combs did warm-up for Carson, but when I saw him in front of the camera doing a stand-up spot I wasn't overwhelmed. Then when he got the FEUD gig nothing really changed my mind about him. There were moments, of course, but I always preferred Dawson's version.

For me, familiarity breeds contempt, so I'm not a big fan of the current incarnations of WOF or Feud (or as it is better known on the internet, Fued), though in the case of WOF, I'm clearly in the minority.

Brandon may get stoned, but I'll get bouldered for this one:
I've Got A Secret.
And yet I can't enough of What's My Line?, To Tell The Truth and The Name's The Same.
-
My list is as follows:
* The B&E Q&A shows Joker's Wild (syndicated years), Bullseye & Tic Tac Dough.
Why? Because now that I watch them as an adult, I realize that 98% of those questions they asked are about as difficult, if not easier than most High School proficiency tests today. I was intrigued by those shows when they first aired because I was not yet a high school alumnus, thus the questions were challenging & on par with my schooling at the time. Now, when I look back at tapes and see a contestant mistake Hawaii for Nebraska in the Maps of States *visual* category, I realize how lazy the contestant coordinators were in finding good players.
When TJW first appeared on CBS, and I saw those rare eps. on GSN, those were game show quality questions, and that difficulty threshold should have stayed!
* Match Game '7X -- In the years of the blue set & the Star Wheel.
Why? Because that's when they started the era of heavy editing during the writing of the answers. I enjoy the banter during the WANK music -- and that, IMHO, is why MG got such a loyal following. Plus, it didn't give the play-at-home people much of a chance to come up with an answer or even to compare answers with other players in the room.
Yes, I know that a lot of that was necessary -- especially in the nighttime shows to get all of the game(s) in, but I still never liked the feeling that *all 6 celebs* could come up with, write out, and insert their answers into their slots in under 3 seconds.
-
I honestly never really cared for any of the black-&-white panel shows. To me, they're dull and outdated.
-
I didn't care at all for Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall.
I even preferred Break the Bank & Battlestars over it.

Okay, guys kill me. I didn't really like The Gong Show (Barris version), because I kinda like the Don Bleu version.
-
I will probably get hammered for this one, but I have never personally really liked LMAD. I really never cared for Monty Hall for some reason. In fact when GSN aired LMAD when they first acquired it, I actually watched a few of the Geoff Edwards hosted episodes, but found myself totally bored with Monty.
I also was never really too fond of Match Game, although I could tolerate it considerably more than LMAD.

Shall we get someone to poke you if/when that LMaD '80 ep makes another appearance at this yr's GSC? :-D

Actually about 3...And I know I may have enjoyed it more if i originally saw it, BUT...I just feel that the show is a little too cheesy and confusing, even for the 70s.
-
When I was little, I didn't really care for Classic Concentration too much......but that's because I HATED the losing horn. [not the buzzer]
-
My first memories of Match Game were from MG98. (That was before I had GSN, obviously.)
-
I've never been a huge Price Is Right fan, but that's mostly because I don't care for Barker. (Nothing to do with the behind-the-scenes stuff in recent years; I just feel like he treats the contestants as if they're borderline imbeciles -- although many of them become that way when on stage.)
Joker's Wild, as mentioned before, has overly simple questions and is way too dependant on luck.
-
Pyramid.
Not that I hate it per se, it's just that I never could get into the main game. However, I do like Password and its incarnations.

I'll ask my shrink why it was that I loved I've Got A Secret, enjoyed What's My Line, but didn't care that much for To Tell The Truth. I'd watch it, but it just didn't grab me like the others did. High Rollers also was ...ehhhhh. I love playing the original game (Shut The Box), but sitting and watching people play it was another thing...
-
I'm with Desperado. Those panel shows are so dreadfully dull...not just the B&W ones either.
-
I agree with you, Jay and Desperado. I wasn't going to say it, mostly out of respect for the heritage of the shows, but as a man of 30 I'm just not of the right generation to fully appreciate a good quiet panel show. Not at all a knock against the shows, but I need bells and buzzers and lights and colors with my questions and answers since that's what I grew up on. Along that line, I'll usually enjoy a newer version of a show more than the original.

If someone insults you for having an opinion; they are close-minded, and should spew that crap on GSN's boards.
I really don't care for Card Sharks, all Barry/Enright shows [except Break the Bank]; watching TJW with Cullen was painful as hell...High Rollers, Now You See It [Narz], and Press Your Luck.

I don't like the main game either--I'm glad someone agrees. But I like the Winners' Circle enough to make up for it. (At least on Dick Clark's version.) Strangely enough, I sort of liked the 20-second version of the main game on Donny's version, although the canned laughter during the category reveals negates any good it did.
The one I couldn't stand that seems to have support around here is "Bullseye." Lousy Barry-Enright endgame, dull host, dull rules, out-of-place set.
-
The panel shows are growing on me. I actually have fun playing along with What's My Line, and always thought TTTT was cool. At first I thought they were boring, and I think I was pretty surprised that the 50s shows had such innuendo, for what I thought was a more prudish era.
The more I think of it, the less I like Weakest Link. Call it strategy, but the idea of voting off the strongest player always left a sour taste in my mouth. I always thought it was the punk way out (replace "punk" with a slang term for a feline or slang for area of the female anatomy), and thought the strongest link should get immunity.
-
Since B&W panel shows are getting mentioned, I might as well put myself in that boat. If I want a good B&W game show, give me Password or Beat The Clock or even the original Twenty-One. You old-timers can keep those B&W panel shows. Me, I prefer the color variety.

I'm now going to admit something insane, especially as someone who considers the Clark Pyramid to be the Greatest Game Show Ever, but through the magic of Tivo, I have sped through many a front game to get to the Winner's Circle.

Sorry, folks, but I just never trusted The Joker's Wild. I know network standards and practices would have kept a tight rein on the show (ESPECIALLY with you-know-who involved) but it always seemed they could manipulate the way the reels came up. Add the usual Barry-Enright faults (weak questions, a lame beat the bad guy end game) and I usually took a pass.

If that's your opinion I respect it...however, I think once Barry got back on television, he learned a bit of a lesson and wouldn't risk throwing it away after what happened before. In the "Come on Down" book, Dan Enright even states something to the effect of "...I'll never lie again, it's not worth it. I'll simply tell the truth, and bear the consequences".

"Play Your Hunch" wasn't really a panel show--it was a straight game show using the basic conceit of "TTTT" as more of a straight guessing game. Granted, it was more chatty than other games of its type, but it's truly a competition, not a panel against a contestant or team of contestants.

I'm not saying I have any evidence, or that it happened. But in watching the show, it just seemed like the "slot machine" could have been fixed to providing exciting games or help one contestant. And I thought this even before knowing about Barry/Enright and their roles in the quiz scandals. Maybe it was because it was the early 70s. Richard Nixon inspired that sort of paranoia in people.
-
In retrospect it find it interesting that TJW debuted the same day as a game show where the object was to get to twenty-one.
-
One game I find really boring is the Family Feud, especially when Dawson hosted it. This may be in bias because I grew up watching Ray Combs, but I'm not sure.
I also didn't like the Newlywed Game, which was "popular" for about 10 years.
-
I really don't like The Dating Game. I sort of like the show itself, but TV as a whole would've probably been much better off without it.

Have you 'converted' the advance button on your TiVo remote to a 30 second skip? It's a godsend. I really had no use for the button as programmed from the factory. I basically 1X scan through the come on down's, IFUB's and prize descriptions (including the Showcases) and just watch the game being played. I skip the wheel totally (I like to be 'surprised' when I hit the Showcase) as well as any time Rich Fields appears on camera.
Long live TiVo!

You should see me on days when I'm not home to catch TPiR...I watch the entire ep in FF, except for perhaps the showcase price reveals at the end, and the more exciting games like Triple Play, 3X, and Golden Road...can usually knock an entire ep off in about 5 min. :-)
