Title: Playing hypotheticals here...
Post by: Dbacksfan12 on March 05, 2005, 05:32:50 PM
Let's say you were appointed to head up a revival of "Tic Tac Dough".  You post the hosting job...and only get two returns:
Jim Caldwell and Patrick Wayne.

Your boss tells you that you've exhausted the job search budget; and you must make a selection between the two aforementioned hosts.  Who do you choose, and why?

I'd seriously reconsider doing the show at this point.

Jim Caldwell because I can't get enough of red box adulation.
And now the real reason. Because of his success on the infomerical circuit (which I believe made him a leventy-billionaire) I'd imagine his confidence level is a lot higher than it was twenty years ago and this could lead to a more comfortable presence behind the emcee's podium and much less of that infernal giggling.
Too bad Pat O'Brien isn't interested in your hypothetical situation. Aw, damn! I just washed these pants.

I dunno, I'd have to go outside the box and go after Richard Karn, so he could, say it with me:

"DOUBLE THE POT!!!"{whoooooo!}

Actually, if a gun was put to my head, I'd go with Caldwell. He actually came off more sincere and likable, plus he improved over time (but not much).

Jim Caldwell because I like game show hosts named Jim.

Volunteer my own services...
Ask for another dollar in the budget and place a quick call to mid-Michigan...
Say, "You know, we don't need a host - the judge can read the questions over the loudspeaker"...

Exhausting those options, I think Caldwell is the lesser of the evils - less grating on the eardrums and his mistakes are funny! 4 out of 5 Sardinistas agree! :)

Job search budget, my ass. I'd hop on this board and ask Matt and Randy if either of them wanted the job.

Bet they'd both say yes. And for that matter, so would I. By the way, if ever you get the chance to see a Jay Jackson-hosted episode, you're in for a treat. That has to be the fast question reader I've ever seen.

Then they'd better install a podium that's sufficiently tall, wide, and opaque. The writers might throw in a question or two about Pat O'Brien....

I'd appoint myself host.

Short of that, I would lean toward Caldwell.  I felt he did better on TC than TTD.  And more experience sure helped him.

Sure I can't pick "none of the above"?  No?

OK.  Given the choice, I'd pick Jim Caldwell.  He seemed to feel "at home" on "Top Card", his only other game show.  Further, it's been about two decades (betcha that makes ya feel old) since TTD's eighth season, one that most would prefer to forget.

Now, if for some crazy reason this latest TTD revival's considering a prize girl/co-hostess of some sort, three words of advice -- "Bypass Blake Pickett".  After two seasons of dealing out cards on TC, she went on to B-movie queen stardom.

In case you're wondering what Jimbo's up to nowadays, go to www.futurethunder.com on the web.

Thus becoing yet another in a long line of game show hostesses we've seen (or can see) nekkid.  (Others:  Janice Pennington, Dian Parkinson, Gena Lee Nolin, Nikki Ziering, Heather Kozar, Julie Cialini, Ann Pennington, Vanna White, Jenny McCarthy, Carmen Electra, Vikki McCarty, and probably a few I've forgotten.)

Caldwell wasn't that horrendous, and it sounds like he improved on Top Card, which I never watched.  Many hosts struggle early on, but the early episodes aren't around for us to watch anymore.  (Well, I guess Pat Sajak did pretty well from the get-go.)

Since I've never seen the Patrick Wayne version of Tic Tac Dough, I can't answer the question well. What I can say though is that I saw a lot of Caldwell on TTD from GSN, and I didn't think he did too bad, and I wouldn't mind watching him do a revival.

I'd also go w/Caldwell...for all his mistakes early on, he did improve as the season progressed, and would prolly do a decent job.

Jim Caldwell fo' sheezy.  Patrick Wayne and the whole "YOOOUUU WIIIINNNN!!!!" thing just doesn't fly with me.  Jim Caldwell only seemed like a bad host cause Wink Martindale's a really tough act to follow.

Nothing against the Winker, but he's not exactly Walter Cronkite.

I'd say "screw that," and use this as an excuse to host the show myself.
