Title: Revival themes with original run hints
Post by: Johnissoevil on January 17, 2005, 06:57:30 PM
Seeing as Family Feud's current theme has a hint of the Dawson/Combs theme, and TJW's opening theme from the Hidey library is a remake of The Savers, I'm wondering if anyone ever noticed any others.  One that comes to mind is the John Davidson run of Hollywood Squares.  I've noticed a slight hint of the theme from the later Peter Marshall years, but I'm thinking that might be coincidental.  Anyone know of any others?

MG90 used a remake of the 70s theme. TTTT90 used a remake of the Moore era theme.

The first few measures of the "All-New Let's Make a Deal" opening is the original melody of the 60's-70's theme.

No suprise, but the John - no I mean Doug - Davidson 'New TPIR' had an inferrior version of the Score theme.

I have seen one Woolery 'Dating Game' by trade, but it may have a similar theme to the original. The set was based on the old show.

IIRC the late Steve Kaplan re-recorded the classic Dating and Newlywed themes for the 1997-99 seasons of the show. The 1996-97 season of DG and NG weren't faithful to the classic formats and deservedly didn't use the classic themes.

Mid 70s High Rollers and late 70s High Rollers had the same music.
There's also strong similarity to the 1973-81 Pyramid theme with that which was used from 1982-88 and 1991-92.

Speak for yourself. I thought it was an excellent update.

It wasn't just similar, it was damned near identical, but with current instrumentation.

Are you a blanking idiot?  The theme rocks on a show that didn't.  Learn how to separate the two.

The only new theme that has a minute hint is the 1999 opening (six notes starting at 0:07).  It would have been nice if Parker had thrown in more of a "shadow" of the previous themes, but I have to admit, the new version has grown on me over 6 seasons.

Who was it who said the 1982 theme sounded like the 1973 theme with the sheet music turned upside-down?

In MG98, essentially the one redeeming quality of the show besides maybe Michael Burger, the main theme and think music both began with the opening bass riff of the '70s theme, before modulating into the new theme.

The 1998 season of "Newlywed Game" - the final year in syndication - used a new musical theme by John Blaylock and Barry Coffing.

Surprised you didn't remember that.

I'd only seen a 1998-99 episode or two when they aired during Lover's Lounge in 2001, and forgotten about that theme. Aren't those two composers the same two responsible for the wonderful Pyramid2K2 theme?

Umm...the 1996 NG used a variation of the NG song. Not what we geeks are familiar with, but you could tell it was based on the NG theme.

There was also that weird version used during the 80s NG.

The 80s NG theme(not the 50s song Book of Love used in the Rodriguez version)was a updated recording of the classic NG theme by Milon Delugg himself. The 1996 version doesn't exactly stay in one's head.
