Has anyone solved a Wheel of Fortune puzzle without any help in the bonus round?
AFAIK, I've never seen it happen before.
-
It's happened at least twice in the current era, I do believe. Once during Christmas 1988 and once during College Week in Washington D.C.

Yeah, that's what I also meant as well.

Is WOF that harsh to give the contestant a puzzle without ANY of the default letters?
-
Well, if you think about pre-1988, before they had those as the default letters...

I don't recall anyone solving a bonus puzzle without a single letter showing(meaning the puzzle they picked has no RSTNLE or any of the four letters picked). I do remember ZOO being the bonus puzzle in 1992 and the contestant actually picked Z and O, sensing the puzzle might be ZOO.
-
Here's a brain teaser which may add to the thread: is it even POSSIBLE to come up with a puzzle on WoF that won't show the RSTLN or E?
Not a little 3 or 4 word puzzle, but something longer, like maybe two words, whether it be person, place, thing, or whatever.
-
If there's a Welsh version, they probably have some PLACEs that would qualify.
-
One contestant in the mid-1990s had no letters on the board, had PERSON as the category, and her first guess was BABY...and that was the correct answer.
Brian
Pope John Paul the Sixth?
-
"HAWAII"
One that's almost there...
"HAWAII FIVE-O"
One that is nothing but RSTLNE:
"TENNESSEE"
-
The only thing I can think of is
CUCKOO
This is pretty damn hard...the sad thing is, Pat's noted plenty of puzzles that didn't have RSTLN E.
-
I was watching a '92 episode of Wheel of Fortune where there were no default letters anywhere in the bonus puzzle and the contestant chose 3 more and 1 more vowel and none of her letters didn't appear in the puzzle either and it's only a 3 Letter bonus puzzle, so what was the category and what was the original air date for that episode?

Well, the word "Chicago" doesn't contain any of the Big Six, and could qualify as:
People (the rock group)
Place (city that I work in)
Title (movie with Catherine Zeta-Jones; might've been a stage show too ;-) )
If it weren't for the fact that the North Side baseball team ends in a plural, that would've been a good possiblity. Although you could do "CHICAGO CUB" and categorize it as "Person" and maybe get away with it.

Let's say the puzzle is BIG-MOUTH BASS. A and S are called before B. Think the FCC might frown on this puzzle?

Probably not as much as if the puzzle was GO TUCK YOURSELF IN and all you saw was GO -UCK YOURSELF --

It did, and Pat was rather clever about it. It was something like
A S S _ _ _ _ _ (rest of puzzle)
A contestant finally called the letter that went in the fourth position of the word, and Pat thanked them profusely for doing so.
. . . . .
I'm faintly recalling a bonus puzzle of PIZZAZZ from some years back (it went unsolved, though).

One of my very favorite Best of 10 rounds had the champion inviting Ben to go first. He proceeded to reel off 9 right answers from what wasn't a very easy stack of questions at all. Money's safe this day, right?
Wrong. Player goes a perfect 10 for 10, and relieves Ben of a cool five large. A great moment on what was a horribly underrated game show.

Never underrated from this corner--any show that combines a genuine hard Q&A with contemporary comedy and a genuine sense of risk gets nothing but admiration and love here. When Ben was free to reveal his neuroses about showing himself up on national TV and Kimmel was the sidekick, it was cooking on all cylinders. Unfortunately, it will be a hard one to revive, even if Ben wants to do it again (and he might), because Kimmel's otherwise engaged--but if they can find another perfect smartass, go for it. (I admit that I didn't get to see the last season of shows with Kimmel's nephew, so I don't know if he and Ben had the same chemistry--I do know that he and Nancy Pimental didn't.)
Of course, you also need a Ben Stein--and it seemed to me that in other countries, neither Jeremy Beadle nor two Australian DJs trading off the Ben/Kimmel roles fit the bill. (I also heard that the game material on "Win Beadle's Money" was overwhelmingly pop culture and a lot simpler than the original.)
