Title: Adlink sez: Goodbye to TNTS on 1/10/05
Post by: Blanquepage on December 23, 2004, 04:01:30 AM
Tattletales at 3:00AM. (http://\"http://adlink.com/resource_center/programming_grids/apg.cfm?netid=44382&begweek=01/10/2005&endtime=1770\")

Tattletales is only listed for this week, but unless GSN's doing this as a special tribute to someone, I'm betting that the schedules for subsequent weeks just haven't been updated to reflect the change.

If this is indeed a permanent change, does anyone else think that Tattletales followed by a solitary black and white show would be an awkward pairing? Just a thought, but perhaps the Bruner / Blyden episodes of WML will be shown during the week and the black & white hour relegated to the weekends?

Oh well, we'll see. What a pity that Two For the Money wasn't given a chance on late weeknights at 3AM.

It's entirely possible that the entire 7-a-week of WML COULD be Bruner/Blyden, with the weekend run of BTC switching to one of the color runs (that haven't been seen, except for 1 or 2 Hall episodes, in YEARS)

Indeed.  I'm also quite certain that the classics fans will soon be falling over themselves, complaining why their color classic isn't been shown. [It's been EIGHT YEARS since Rafferty Card Sharks has been shown!!]
Added at 5:00 this morning:
Although, now that I think of it, I'm a little surprised GSN hasn't shown Card Sharks more; given the current interest in gambling in general.  While they don't have Gambit or High Rollers; do they have any other games of a related nature?

Oh yeah. Don't forgett the  'Blockbusters' remake too.

Seriosuly, since GSN has the dual feed I would hope they stop the final reruns of 'Millonaire' and 'Match Game' and make it two hours and change the line up alot. We'll see if anything happens.

Not me. This means we'll never see the panel expand from three to four members, or any Dennis James-hosted episodes. I guess his family must have revoked permission.

Or.....GSN may have FINALLY retired B&WO for good.

Cordially,
Tammy Warner--the 'Debralee Scott of the Big Board!'

ADDED NOTES: I just now thought of something. Steve Beverly reported at his site of the passing of one Henny Backus, widow of the beloved character actor Jim Backus, himself a frequent GS celeb. Maybe those Tattletales episodes that are to air that week will be ones featuring Mr. & Mrs. Backus as a tribute to Henny. If I'm wrong.....

That won't happen, at least not with MG. That and FF are the "signature shows" of GSN, although I wish they would put "Family Feud Challenge" on again...

I looked at the Christmas schudule. Saturday afternoon just has two of the usasul half-hour shows.

On 10/31 they had listed a full hour show, and what followed was as you know a Nineties show.

Dawson ABC, Combs CBS, and a few years of Combs Syndie Feud had Xmas decorated shows. The 1994-95 syndie season didn't have Xmas shows, as it was in reruns at the time.

Wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. The Adlink schedules for the following weeks (here (http://\"http://adlink.com/resource_center/programming_grids/apg.cfm?netid=44382&begweek=01/17/2005&endtime=1770\"), here (http://\"http://adlink.com/resource_center/programming_grids/apg.cfm?netid=44382&begweek=01/24/2005&endtime=1770\") and here (http://\"http://adlink.com/resource_center/programming_grids/apg.cfm?netid=44382&begweek=01/24/2005&endtime=1770\")) put Name's the Same back on. And those scheds don't appear to be just non-updated copies of preceding weeks, because they show the rerun of the Big Bucks documentary, the debut of the second series of civvie blackjack, and some other rearrangements.

I'm not a big fan of either Tattletales or Name's the Same, but a tribute to Henny Backus would be a nice gesture. I saw her on, of all places, the E! documentary about Gilligan's Island. She was very gracious and appealing.

I would be.  Henny Backus isn't a well-known enough name for GSN to disrupt their regular programming schedule to do a tribute week for.  And normally GSN is quicker on the ball with tributes (like the WML? airings with Dangerfield--they didn't wait three weeks after the fact to air them).  There's got to be something more to it than that for TT to be airing that week (or Adlink's schedule is wrong).

Not dismissing the possibility; I'm just thinking it's a very unlikely prospect.

Henny Backus isn't a well-known enough name for GSN to disrupt their regular programming schedule to do a tribute week for.
But Jim Backus is a well-known enough name, and he would obviously be appearing with her. Anyway, the Adlink schedules, which appear to be updated for the following weeks, show Name's the Same returning. FWIW, the Zap2it schedule (http://\"http://tvlistings2.zap2it.com/program.asp?partner_id=national&prog_id=468108&dbKey=SH1715180000\") also shows Name's the Same returning after a one-week hiatus.

Like I said, I'm not a big fan of either show, so it really doesn't make much difference to me. Tattletales was mostly bland celeb chitchat, not much of a game, mildly interesting at best. Name's the Same had a cute gimmick, but it got old and ran thin fast. I'd rather watch celeb blackjack any time. Hey, celeb uno doesn't look so bad by comparison.

You're missing the point.  If (heaven forbid) Jamie Farr's wife were to pass next week, does that justify GSN dusting off episodes of TT with the Farrs to show?

Imagine the conversation:

PROGRAMMER:  Hey, Chief.  I need a week of TATTLETALES episodes.
PRESIDENT:  For what?
PROGRAMMER:  Joy Farr, the wife of Jamie, just died.
PRESIDENT:  Sorry to hear that.  But why do you need the episodes?
PROGRAMMER:  Shouldn't we do a tribute?
PRESIDENT:  Most of America doesn't know who she is.  No one's going to care.  Sure it'd be a nice gesture, but are we going to get more viewers because we're doing this?
PROGRAMMER:  True, but most of America knows who Jamie Farr is.
PRESIDENT:  You want me to clear a week of TT episodes featuring Jamie Farr and Joy Farr as a tribute to Joy just because we all know Jamie Farr?  Johnson, are you crazy?  Next, you'll be telling me that we should pay tribute to the widow of Jim Backus--whatever her name was. . .

Then you start delving into doing tributes for Donald Ross (Patti Deutsch's husband), Alan Hamill (Suzanne Somers' husband), and so on.  At what point do you draw the line?

The point is--a tribute to the person who died should be to the person who died, not to the person who died who happened to have a spouse with a lot more notoriety.

Um, who cares? If GSN wants to put on a week of Tattletales, I don't care who they show. The Backuses seem like a possibility, but I honestly could not give a thin you-know-what about which celebs they pick. I don't care where they draw any damn line about the show.

Whoa, there, cowboy. You were the one to back up Tammy's wild-assed supposition regarding Henny Backus, and then argue the point when presented with an argument as to why that was a silly notion. So clearly YOU did, at least at one point.

I said it was a possibility, and I said it would be a nice gesture. At the same time I said I wasn't a big fan of the show, so it's no big deal for me.

Still ain't a big deal for me. They can show any eps from Tattletales they want. I'm not taping, and I'm sure not staying up to watch. I also don't care if they put on Tattletales permanently instead of Name's the Same. Adlink and Zap2it say Name's the Same will return, but I've never taped or stayed up for that show, either.

Post by: CaseyAbell on December 27, 2004, 02:02:44 AM
Oh, once more...

I said it's a possibility that GSN might show Tattletales episodes with the Backuses - which obviously is a possibility because GSN might show any Tattletales ep - and that it would be a nice gesture in light of Henny Backus' recent death, which again is an obvious, even trite statement. So what's to tear apart? I don't even know that GSN will show ANY Tattletales episodes (Adlink has been known to be wrong) and I don't particularly care because I'm not a fan of the show and I'm not going to watch...which I've also said from the beginning. Yawn, yawn, yawn. If you want an argument on this "issue," you'll have to find somebody else.

BTW, last time I saw Name's the Same was several years ago when GSN put it on Sunday prime time. It's an okay show but the same-name gimmick ran out of gas pretty quick for me. Whether the show returns after the (possible) Tattletales eps is of just-about-zero concern to me.
