A new image ad has aired on GSN recently featuring some of there old logos for there decade anniversary. It ends "Celebrating 10 years. Thanks for watching." Anyone else here seen it?
-
No, but the renewal of the classics is great news today.
-

That GSN renewed all of its Goodson-Todman shows. [except TPIR of course.]

Or instead of visiting that site of crass journalism; I'll tell you.
The G-T package was renewed. Now you can watch the premiere of Match Game PM 6 more times in the next 4 years!

And that's relevant to the topic of this thread... how? That's all I'm asking.

Maybe I'll rephrase my question. I was wondering how
but the renewal of the classics is great news today.
is a useful answer to the question in the first post - "has anyone else seen the new commercial for GSN".
An irrelevant comment can't be transmogrified into a relevant one by sticking a "but" in front of it.
-
Does anybody have a video capture of this comercial?

ok:
they still remember the past --------->> The G-T package was renewed.
Is that clearer?

Yup. How far have we come since then?
I was first introduced to GSNŽ---formerly known as Game Show Network---in May 1999, when our family decided to switch to COX Digital Cable. (I was still in college, then!!) Boy, what a trip that was. I still have VHS recordings from that bygone era.
Now that it made its big "upgrade" in March, a few oldies-but-goodies are left: Card Sharks (Perry & Eubanks), Blockbusters, Match Game, Family Feud, Press Your Luck, Hollywood Squares (Bergeron), Love Connection, The Newlywed Game...oh, and leave us not forget B&W Overnight. Repeats of the game shows in the Barry-Enright library and The $XX0,000 Pyramid have since been virtually rendered nonexistent. And it's painfully apparent that we can never see Classic TPIR again.
"Gimme Games"? No, thanks. That's why they have ESPN.
Nope, game shows are more my bag. It's nice to stay on the cutting edge with new programming, but there are those of us who still have a yen for nostalgia. Bring back more of the classics.

I, personally, would appreciate it if you didn't purport to speak on my behalf, or question my fandom because I choose to refer to a network by its preferred name.
-
I just call it Channel 54. Love that gamer I saw Saturday circa 6am with Ron Popiel. What was the object of the game they were playing with that chicken? Looked like a poor man's Beat The Clock.
-
Remember, yes? Doesn't mean they aren't p**sing on it to some extent (BTW, for you Scrabble fans, the tiles I just selected for that 7-letter word are an A and an I...somehow I think that "A" is a stopper, if you know what I mean)
-
Clips of Extreme Gong and Love Buffet in that promo would have really urinated on the past. Not that daily showings of All New 3's a Crud don't do the peeing just as well.

Also, their promo implies that Lingo, Russian ROulette, and Whammy! premiered in 2000, two years before they actually did. THey also imply that they've aired Perry CS from the beginning of the channel, when in fact it first aired in January 1996.
-
Yep, I noticed the slight time discrepancies, too. But in 2000 they were showing Extreme Gong and Love Buffet, so they went with clips from later (and far better) originals. A tactful decision, even if the history isn't quite accurate.
-
Well, my .000000000000000000.....(well, you get it.........)
IIRC, the promo lists 1994 (the original logo), 1997 (the flat green ball), 2000 (the round green ball), and 2004 (the current state of crap). Therefore you can look at it like this: 1994-96, 1997-1999, 2000-2004, 2004-. See? Makes sense, doesn't it?

That's how I interpreted it.
And the actual tagline on the closing graphic is "Ten years of winning--Thanks for watching." Very classy, in my opinion, even if they are running it during credit squeezebacks. (Not whining about it, just commenting.) You're welcome, Rich and gang--and maybe in a few years the circle can come around again and you can do more game shows. [Judy Tenuta]It could happen![JT]
