That's incredible.  You know something had to have really gone wrong or someone just dropped the ball on this one.  Or...

Do game shows normally screen backgrounds of contestants?  I'm sure someone here could give us some insight as to what may or may not have happened here.

Seeing as I (and, apparently, most of the rest of the members here) don't consider Blind Date to even be a game show, I can't even answer this question.
Some here can, however, expect Perfesser Stosh to write a whole column about it shortly! (he said half-jokingly)

That's not the pertaint issue here.  The fact remains criminals continue to reach the TV screen, when they probably shouldn't.

In that case, we'd better ban all political ads, debates, news conferences, etc.  C-SPAN might as well just shut down.

Is the Line of the Day still up for grabs?

Depends.  Due to all of the bad publicity, the prime time contest shows probably do more intensive detective work beforehand than they used to.

In most cases, common sense would dictate that if you were a convicted criminal escaped from prison, you wouldn't be parading your face on national television.  But there was that guy who went on "Super Password"--I would say that MGP didn't bother doing a background check back then.  (When the cops saw him on the show, they got him by asking MGP to call the guy and ask him to come to their offices to pick up his check--when he got to 6430 Sunset, SURPRISE!)

Not to be a stickler for accuracy..... but it's 6430 Sunset. I knew that piece of info would come in handy one day. ;-)

Why do I have a feeling I'm gonna see a picture of Leszek next time I go to the post office? :)
