Title: Two quick WoF questions...
Post by: Kevin Prather on October 29, 2004, 10:29:40 PM
1) Can Free Spins be used in the Speed-Up round?

2) If so, has it been done?

No and no.

Thought I answered that somewhere recently, but have forgotten where.

When and how would they be used? There's no spinning in the speed-up round.

To be fair, by the rules, you aren't required to spin when you use the Free Spin.  You may spin, buy, or solve, same as usual.

But no, you can't use them in that round.

If they wanted to, they could allow a player to use it during a speed up round to call one more letter or solve the puzzle, whether the letter the player first gave was in the puzzle or not. But they choose not to.

Okay. Thanks for the info.

I was just thinking about how good a strategy it would be to save the free spin for Speed-Up. If letters came $6,000 a pop, a contestant could make a lot of money by not solving the puzzle, then using their free spin to call another letter.

But alas, the rulemakers are too smart to fall for that. :)
