Title: Weird-ass dreams ...
Post by: geno57 on October 28, 2004, 10:04:05 AM
Yup, I had this very odd dream between 6 and 7 this morning:

I was in the audience at MG7x. Gene and the contestant were into the SuperMatch. The slip revealed the fill-in question. I can't remember what it was. But the player chose his celebs, one of whom was "...from Hello Larry, McLean Stevenson", as Johnny O intoned.

When it was time to reveal the $100 response, the panel slid partially open, but then the board had a small explosion and a smoky meltdown. Gene and the stars were in hysterics.

I left my seat and ran around to the back of the SuperMatch set. The entire thing was this huge iron machine. I witnessed several stagehands, frantically shoveling more coal into the flames! Others were manually pulling the huge, heavy question/answer unit out of its place, and attempting to roll another one into position. These things must have weighed three tons each.

Gene and the celebs made humorous small-talk to kill time, as if this was not the first time all this had occurred.

Then, I woke up ... scratching my head ...

Game show dreams might be a fun thread.

I have only had one...years ago.  I was a celeb player on the $25,000 Pyramid (CBS version).  I remember the dream clearly and it's one of only two dreams that I've had in my life where I recall it being in VIVID color.

I can remember thinking ' this is so cool!, I'm on Pyramid'.  Strangely though, the contestant podiums had Blackout buttons and game play somehow involved them.  I sucked big time!  I was so confused by the blackout buttons!

Strange...

I've had several game show related dreams....

One was my best friend (at the time) appeared on "Wheel of Fortune". He made it to the bonus round, but blew the puzzle. Idiot.
Another was I made it to the bonus on Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego....but I got stuck with friggin Asia as my map, and only got 4.
Then I had a dream that "The Price is Right" used bumpers after the 4th Pricing Game...with an inane quote attached to it.
And to finish things off--I've had several dreams about Remote Control.

I once read somewhere that people don't dream in color. I, too, can disprove this theory as I had a dream I was on WoF.  It was a show that took place outside, except the wheel was not a perfect circle - it was actually a little weird on the one side. I remember the wheel being in living color though.

Oh gosh, back when I was working with the Family Feud software I wouldn't stop working on it until late at night.  Right afterwards I would go directly to bed and fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.  I think about almost every night I would see that darn answer board in my dreams.

Dreaming about game shows is fine as long as you wake up dry.  :)

Dude, who's IN your game show dreams?!

My Pyramid and Price dreams are always in color. But they're also in a parallel universe where nothing makes sense.

You guys are lucky.  I have game show dreams occasionally (usually about Price), but they're never anything coherent.  The most vivid one I've had involved watching someone play some pricing game called "Travelers" that doesn't exist and whose board looked remarkably like Cliff Hangers.

I've also had one with...stuff spread out all over the stage in what I think was some bizarre setup for Take Two.  I swear it had more than one board for the game, and I think Janice was standing in front of one of them.

...like I said, nothing that makes any sense.

Ok...here are some of the ones I've had..

The Price is Right

The 30th year premieres with a new host, an new theme, updated set and new game: pricing Stairs. 5 3-digit prizes are shown. The center floor opens up, and there is are 5 stairs with prices on them. One of the models is then pushed down the stairs, and whatever she lands on the contestant must match that price with the right prize.

The Price is Right $1,000,000 spectacular for old people-Only old people in the audience, making fun of us "young folks". It was a, well, BAD show.

The New Price is Right- Think the 94' version with bonuses of $100 for coming on down, hosted by a black supermodel, the main theme was "more bounce to the ounce", and the only PG I remember was "Can you pull this bar apart?"

Family feud

The new set is lower, with a screen that comes down to show the answers, and the set is littred with..artwork. The area behind Richard Dawson is a statue of the thinker, and each family has a famous scenery painting behind it...

Another open I dreamed showed the 94 set, all dark with spotlights, and the camera showed the family's name light up, and then it zoomed to a side view of the doors, where the family was posed in a bedroom or living room....

Weird huh?

I often have game show dreams too.  My favoritte one was where I was a contestant on Regis' WWTBAM?.  In that one, I answered the $125K question right, then I woke up & went back to sleep & it picked right up to where I left off at $250K, then got that one right too.  Woke up again & went back to sleep, you guessed it, I was going for a half-million dollars.  But the dream got messed up when it transitioned into something else.  I tried but couldn't get the $1M question part of my dream.  Man, game show dreams can cause some wild reactions.

I dreamt that one time the Password Puzzle board broke down during a taping and Allen Ludden started screaming at the producer about not being able to decide what to do.

No wait, that really happened.

Do you, by any chance, remember what the questions were?

I had a dream I was watching WWTBAM. This lady was going for the million. The MDQ was something along the lines of "In the first draft of the Declaration of Independence, what phrase appears in place of 'When in the course of human events...'?"

I know it's a total nonsense question. Incidentally, the woman was leaning heavily toward B, but decided to walk with $500K, and sure enough, B was the right answer.

Speaking of MG-related dreams, back around 1978-79, I once dreamt that I saw a promo for yet another version of the show, like MGPM, it was syndicated, but this incarnation was aimed at teenagers, and was called "Match Game Teen". This dream version was shown on Pittsburgh's NBC affiliate, while in real life the CBS station ran the CBS daytime version and the ABC outlet showed MGPM on Fridays. Do you think teens could relate to Brett Somers?

I don't remember having a dream where I was on a game show, but I've had at least two where I saw shows being taped.  In one of them, two players made it into Final Jeopardy, and the one who trailed forced the leader to miss it--at gunpoint.  In the other, all I saw was Jack Tripper (John Ritter's character on Three's Company) on TJW pulling the lever in the bonus round.

Two "Millionaire" ones:

My own worst nightmare
Earlier this week, in my dream, I made it to the show, and was ready to play.  For some reason, they're only taping "Celebrity Scoop" shows, and I'm on deck, even though I qualified for the normal game.  Kicking and screaming, I'm led to the chair, and have to play:

$100: Easy enough, got it right.
$200: Had to ATA, went with the massive majority, right
$300: Had to PAF, he laughed at me and gave me the right answer with :01 to go.
$500: No clue, used 50:50, guessed correctly.
$1,000: Thought I knew it, guessed, but I was wrong.  D'oh.

Wacky Nonense Dream
The other one I had was back when Millionaire was in primetime.  I made it to the chair, but had a special "speed-up" money tree, looking something... like this.

$500,000
$32,000
$16,000
$8,000
$4,000
$2,000
$1,000
$500

And wouldn't you know it, I woke up just before the $500k question was revealed.
(EDIT: My bad.  I was the last contestant of the two-week run, hence the speed-up money tree.  Time ran out just before the final question.  So they gave me the $32k, and told me to beat it.  Not bad.)

I'm so happy to see this thread here because I thought I was the only one who had GS dreams. I feel reasonably normal now.

I had one just a few weeks ago about an old skating rink I used to frequent in elementary school which had a GREAT arcade game room. I went in there as my adult self and saw a "Hit Man" game that was so elaborate (as things you see in dreams go) that I still can't shake it. It was housed in a little makeshift room (Think "Discs of Tron") and had a set of headphones and joystick. Put in a quarter and watch the Round One movie, and then the entire screen spun around to reveal the "race" portion of the game. For Round two, after the movie, the screen spun around and displayed a starfield, and the surrounding boarders lit up all the Hit Men for the round (and they even did that "flash and vanish" thing when you gave correct answers).

Looking back at all the dreams I've had about game shows over the years, I'd have to call this one the least flu-induced.

I had two weird dreams:

The first one was off of "The Joker's Wild", and that someone (it was a girl) spin three jokers in the bonus round. According to my [dream's] rules, whenever three jokers are spun in the bonus round, he or she wins a cash jackpot (a la TJW 90). well, she spun three jokers on the second try, wins $130,000 cash, jumps up in excitment, punches me clear across the face, runs around the entire studio (last I recall it was Sony Pictures...it may be studio 33), and leaves me there looking dumbfounded and stunned.

The second one was from hosting "Card Sharks", where I had an electronic backdrop of the gameboard (which could display 1.3 million colors of light), and the thing malfunctions, leaving the screen on different displays:

* The Cubs game (they were playing the yankees, or boston. can't remember)
* porn (don't know how that got in there)
* that pop-up screen that tells you that you've made an error on the computer.

I couldn't do much of anything but try to call high-low.

I had a weird dream the other day.  I was on a behind the scenes tour of price, and was watching all the games being wheeled in and out.  Most of them looked really  in disrepare up close and I remember talking to someone saying that they where aell going to get an  overhaul.  Then I remember turning around to watch a backstage monitor that was positioned on top of the Plinko game..., only to look behind me and find that everyone had stopped what they where doing and was watching with me.

Really weird :).

"How do you do, ladies and gentlemen, I'm Fahey Flynn. And this is the Big Showdown!"

I can't imagine Fahey hosting a game show.

[OT]: Fahey died not long after an appearance at my high school. He slipped and fell off the stage, suffering severe injuries. This happened in the mid-80s, a good eight or ten years after I was handed my diploma on that same stage.

Fahey Flynn was a great news anchor, and a very sweet and classy man.

Hey, I've had a couple of opportunities to play "Strip Jeopardy!" ... Ya gotta be with the right people at the time. Much fun!

Every right answer gets you the dollar values, as usual. Every wrong answer ... you lose money, and an article of clothing determined by the host.

Oy.  First the thought of Alex Trebek in spandex (see the "Trebek Injured?" thread), now this.  Are we giving Harry Friedman ideas we shouldn't?
