I read somewhere that it debuted in 1997, but ISTR Jimmy saying on the New Years 2000 episode that it debuted in 1984, but that can't be right, can it?

According to the Game Show Encyclopedia, WBSM premiered on July 28, 1997.

Here is the excerpt which I refer to. It is paraphrased, of course.


Jimmy: "You know, Ben, if you told me back when the show started in 1984 that we'd still be on in 2000, I would've said you were crazy, but here we are."

Forgive me, but this doesn't strike me as a joke. If it is, feel free to Whoosh the living hell out of me.

I was going to say that it didn't sound like a joke because of Ben's monotone voice, but then I realized Jimmy said it, so there goes that theory.  

I'm not usually one to get on people's cases over things like this, but I just can't believe you fell for that.
