Title: More of the best & worst
Post by: gshowguy on August 22, 2004, 12:19:51 PM
Here's some more of the "Best & Worst":

Host:

BEST: Bill Cullen, Bob Barker, Marc Summers, all the legends. They defined the term "game show".

WORST: Patrick Wayne (thank God I remembered to turn the mute on when I saw his episodes so that I wouldn't have to hear him yelling "YOU'RE RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!", or "YOU BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK!", or "YOU WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!")

Set:

BEST: Classic Concentration. It has one of the most flashy sets ever, and those palm trees are cute to add.

WORST: Shop 'Til You Drop '03. That looks like it took place in Costco!

Announcer:

BEST: Johnny Olson, Gene Wood, Johnny Gilbert, Charlie O'Donnell, all the legends.

WORST: Daniel Rosen. He sounds like an overly-peppy version of Burton Richardson.

Contestant:

BEST: Michael Larson, Thom McKee, Virginia from the Aussie $otC, and all the millionaires from "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire". They were geniuses. Pure geniuses. I'd give an honorable mention to Trevor Sauer from the Aussie WWtBaM after reading about him.

WORST: Nana Joy from the Aussie TPiR (who the f**k would think $745 is between $31,600 and $31,700?! Or is it because she's too old?). Dishonorable mention: Tom from WoF in 2001. Why he would go from low-key to overly-hyper after winning a new car in the bonus round is beyond me. I'd also add "Dr. Obnoxious" himself, Kurt Warkenthien, to the list, because of what he was on WWtBaM in 2000.

Share your ideas here. And no, I am not reviving another forum. This is seperate.

This has been said before, but sometimes when you are on television, with millions of people watching at home and in the audience, sometimes your brain goes to mush, to where you can't think straight. This has been seen on many shows over the years, from Price, to Family Feud, to Wheel of Fortune etc.

As for your other person, maybe because he was excited?

That could be it. That could be the reason why ol' Reege called Kurt "Dr. Obnoxious".

I was speaking about Tom on Wheel of Fortune

Marc Summers?  I mean, he's a nice, bright guy and ran his shows well, but I can't put him in the same group with Cullen and Barker.

Why would I put him in here? He only hosted "I'm Telling!" for just a year. So the answer to your question is no.

Don probably was recalling MY putting Laurie Faso on a pedestal in 1996-97 upon our talks of less-than-stellar shows and hosts which I'm Telling and LF both were.

Yes, because we all study and memorize EVERY SINGLE post you make, in case we want to "recall" it later.

Jesus, Zach, get the hell over yourself. More often than not we try to FORGET that you post, much less remember them for later.

BTW, while we're still on the topic of "best & worst", most of my opinions came from US game shows. Here's my best and worst on the foreign stuff you seem to not want to talk about much:

Host:

BEST: A tie! It's between Rob Elliott (of Aussie WoF) and Marco Antonio Regil (of Mexican FF). They seem to really enjoy the games they do (at least until Rob was in his final months on the show).

WORST: Any host of "Guerra de los Sexos" (a Venezuelan game show). They are WAYYYY too hyper.

Announcer:

BEST: Gotta appreciate John Deeks (of many Aussie games on the Seven Network). He's really enjoying himself.

WORST: I can't think of any, other than the "Megavoz" of "Mega Match".

Set:

BEST: The set of the Mexican FF from 2001-2003. It's very traditional to Mexicans.

WORST: The sets of all those Venezuelan game shows I see on Telefutura. They are cheaply built.

Contestant:

BEST: Virginia of Aussie $otC. Being the only player to buzz in on the questions during the "Fast Money" round and ending the game with $155 proves she's a smart woman.

WORST: Charles Ingram of British WWtbaM. And we know why.

Music:

BEST: 2001 music from the Mexican FF and current Aussie WoF music. They are extremely upbeat and catchy. I'd also include the classic WWtbaM theme tune, as it started in England.

WORST: The 1983 theme tune to the British FF. Banjos don't fit in well with England. In Canada or Australia, however, that's a different story.

What was Rob like in his final months? Was he like Richard Dawson in his final year or so of Feud in the mid 80's?

Not quite. Someone on this message board said he quit because he started getting less and less into the game, plus the producers wanted to fire him just so they could get a younger host.

Before this show, he hosted a crapfest (apparent to Australians) called "Talking Telephone Numbers", with cheesy play-at-home elements, and NO CONTESTANTS.

I think another show Rob could do would be the Aussie Match Game (called "Blankety Blanks"). He says that was his favorite game show growing up. I read about it on the Australian Wheel of Fortune Page.

From clips I saw, he was more subdued early on, and he got more into it as he went on. His screaming of: YEAAHHHHHHH! when a big win happened, is example of that.

Perhaps Rob had too much fun or something. At least he's not close to Patrick Wayne.

From what I understand, Elliott was a bit too outspoken, which didn't sit well w/the Seven staff...though I still think they could've picked a better replacement.
