I'm leaving on a jet plane for beautiful downtown Burbank early Friday
morning (Friday the 13th). Have we determined yet who of us is attending
Game Show Congrefs other than yours truly? This way I'll know who to look for.
-
I will be there Saturday and Sunday.
Tim H.
-
I'll be arriving Saturday and there until Monday.
-
I'm going to be there. I'll be the nervous-looking one, unsure of what to say or where to go.

I'll be there.
-
As will I.
-
Flying in Friday morning as well, staying until Tuesday.

Ditto that.

Does anyone have ideas for what they will do on Saturday? I was thinking of going to the MBC, but may go to Guiness World Record Museum and the Hollywood Wax Museum (after I blow up my inflatable dummy so I can utilize the HOV lanes!).

I believe there's a Wheel Of Fortune taping that day. It'll be your golden opportunity to check out those 1.5 million colors of light right there in person.
-
I believe the tapings are on Friday. I was a contestant on it 2 years ago, so I've seen enough live WOF shows.

Wheel, in all its illuminated glory, is tomorrow (the GSC is out of tickets, but they're still available at tvtix.com).
Saturday has a trip to the Millionaire Play It! attraction at California adventure (10-5) and a "Hospitality Reception and Delegate Social" from 7:30-10pm.

Looks like one can hit the hotel bar between 7:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday night and not miss a thing. :)
And if it wasn't for my loyalty to the Stages festival at Theatre Building Chicago (http://\"http://www.theatrebuildingchicago.org\") this weekend (with our guest star original "Star Search" megachamp Sam Harris--I know, that's stretching the game show definition), I'd be in Beautiful Downtown Burbank with you guys. Have a good time on me.
ObGameShow: Among our guest performers in past years at Stages were celeb panel mainstays Nancy Dussault and Joanne Worley (telling Hannibal Lecter jokes at a classy living room house party benefit--such class!) and in our first year, the writer of one of our pieces had worked with Allen Ludden (as a producer) on an ill-fated attempt by MTM in the late 70s to get into the game show business. (He and Betty were very good friends with Grant Tinker and Mary beyond Betty's portrayal of Sue Anne Nivens on "The MTM Show.")

Just a quick "thanks" to the folks who took the time to say hello at GSC - including several who have posted in this thread. It was good seeing you and putting faces with the names (and screen names).
I appreciate your coming up to say hi. I'm only sorry that the TPiR-LIVE schedule had me running around half of Southern California like I was in some BTC stunt. Hopefully we'll meet again when there is more time to talk.
And a giant thanks to the hearty souls who made the trek to see TPiR-Live as part of their trip.

PS - Todd was sorry he couldn't make the visit to GSC, and sends his regards.

And those of us who could not make it are sorry as well.
Can we get a full report up in here, up in here? :)

If TPIR-Live in Atlantic City is any indication, it would have been one of the highlights of the trip for the San Diego crowd. Jeff Trachta, another CBS soap star(Jeff's on Bold and Beautiful) did no worse than Doug Davidson did 10 years ago as host. Daniel's hitting his strides as an announcer, too. Seems to me they're playing the same pricing games in AC as they did when the crowd of Invisioners went last month(Race Game, Cliff Hangers, Hole in One/Two, It's in the Bag), and even had some of the same prizes in the Showcase.

Jayne Meadows impressed me. She gave a most heartfelt tribute to Bill Cullen and described how she met her late husband Steve Allen. Her fondness for her friend Billy was genuine and it really came through. I came expecting not to be impressed by Jayne Meadows but I was.
I was so looking forward to spending an afternoon listening to Bob Stewart -- not just funny stories but about his career as the most prolific creator of games in the history of television. It was not meant to be, but it was quite something to see him standing next to Dick Clark.
We heard audio clips from Don Pardo, Betsy Palmer and Kitty Carlisle Hart. I hope it was not the last time we hear from dear Kitty.
Bob Boden shared terrific insights comparing classic game shows to the new era of reality shows.
It was fun meeting lots of new faces.
Bob Barker: Yeah he was there. I think Tom Kennedy might have pissed him off.

A few random thoughts after a crazy fun weekend...
I never imagined that I could be in public, recite the text of a Whammy animation, and not be met with confused and/or suspicious stares. Heck, usually people joined in!
Mike Burger's super multi-show extravaganza is a lot of fun to play.
Betty White is still funny.
For whatever reason, playing the Money Cards with a gigantic deck makes the game a lot more fun.
I didn't get to see that much, but it's always nice to see the people in the VIP seats of the TPiR audience really get into yelling suggestions. It's just too bad Rich didn't have time to do his "DON'T HURT BOB" speech at that taping.
It was great meeting everybody over the course of the weekend, and a lot of fun, too. See you next year!

At one point in the ceremonies Tom Kennedy turned to Barker and said "You've missed two tapings already" or words to that effect -- I have no idea what he meant by it. A few seconds later Barker rose from his chair and said, "Wait a minute, I do have a taping to go to" and left the room.
Go figure.

Tom may possibly be referring to the two tapings Bob missed in late 1974, for which Dennis James filled in for him on the daytime show.
-
I had a great time this weekend! It was a quick trip, but I felt like I was gone for a week! It was fun to meet everyone. Everything was great until the LAX security debacle on Monday night, but who needs sleep.
Thanks to everyone who had a hand in organzing this event. It's neat to meet so many other people who share a love for game shows.

Why do I have a feeling that Bob Eubanks won't be attending one of these things? ;-)
-
I think Bob feared for his life when he saw the white trellaces on the patio!
One unanswered question, though, is what color WAS the carpet on the pilot for THE RIDDLERS.

For the love of God, Zach... I'm guessing TK barely remembers stuff that happened *last week* than in 19 frickin 74... I was there, TK made a joke at Bob's expense (as did Betty White...), Bob wasn't the 100% center of attention, so after TK spoke and sat down, Bob found his 'exit line' and left the festivities... his part was over anyway (they had moved on to the Bill Cullen portion of the remarks)
I had a great time. It was great putting names to faces and mis-identifying people (by accident @;-P). The luncheon was outstanding... all of those people in that same room... purely a sight to behold. I want to thank everybody who was involved in the planning, it was truly a great weekend.
Funniest moment: a bunch of game show fans are playing games in the 'garden' at the Hilton Burbank and Bob Eubanks walks by (he was there for a totally unrelated event) and guess how many people noticed? Barely two... How funny is that? @;-)

Not too surprising. If you remember those NBC Game Show Blooper shows, Bob did one show standing in the middle of a crowded shopping mall food court. Not one person at the mall was paying attention to him.
-
That's a wee bit different....Average folks walking through a mall...Bob Eubanks isn't as recognizable as he might have been in the 60s/70s (or even late 80s or late 90s when those runs of NG were on)...If they don't notice, not surprising.
BUT, Eubanks walks by a bunch of *game show fans* who should notice when Bob Eubanks walks by...and all of two notice.
-

If I were Bob Eubanks and I saw a bunch of guys who can't get a date on Saturday night standing around imitating the Big Wheel "doot-doot-doot" sound, I think I'd get out of there ASAP.
One unanswered question, though, is what color WAS the carpet on the pilot for THE RIDDLERS?
Alas, the answer to that question will go to Bob Stewart's grave with him. Unless someone reading this has a copy of the Riddlers pilot.
And you haven't really seen The Price Is Right until you've seen it with all the pricing games played on a horizontal tabletop -- especially P!inko.
-

Well, maybe he had an animal to neuter.
I got the distinct impression that when Barker whined about the ovation he got on the way to the dais not being as big as the one he got entering the room, he wasn't joking. I think Fred Wostbrock/Westbrook lured Barker there by saying that was the day they were finally going to erect the 30-foot bronze statue of him.
Some of the other luminaries made like they had to get out of there in a hurry. What the heck for? Your career is over. You have taken up residence in oblivion-ville. You are a living entry in a trivia book. What could you POSSIBLY have going on that's so pressing that you have to leave right away? A shuffleboard tournament at the home for game show octagenarians?
So what did T.K. mean by that remark?

I wish! No, Jason Hernandez had brought a deck of big (I'd say Hit Me-sized) playing cards that he said he found in Vegas and weren't available anymore (suuuuure...), so the natural thing to do was play Money Cards. Stupid aces kept showing up after queens and kings for me. Top score was $16,100, though I can't remember who got that.

Fo shizzle. He's probably right in that they're not available...I check the Gambler's General Store website quite regularly for such things (and the bottom line is, if GGS doesn't have it, you're not getting it in Vegas, and for the right price you can get damn near ANYTHING in Vegas, if you know what I mean, including a social disease, and I haven't come close to seeing then. Rest assured, the day I do, I will own two decks, one red, one blue, if I can....

I know. I know. I picked a helluva bad time to have to use the restroom.
I rather enjoyed it when Bob Barker walked into the luncheon hall and from a far corner of the room, I bellowed, "BOB BARKER!!!" and the crowd gave him a big ovation as if he'd just come through the big doors. Shortly thereafter at the podium, Stosh Beverly gave him his official introduction and he received about half of that. Bob even commented on this when he got to the microphone. While it's nothing like the greeting he gets when introduced at Television City, at least I can legitimately claim that I once announced the arrival of the star of The Price Is Right.

The publisher didn't have the book ready in time, and Fred was very upset about not having it available for the Congress. It's been delayed several times now, and still is a few weeks away according to Fred. Our member "Mrs. Game Show" will probably tell us when it comes out.
-
It was a great Sunday. The Congress was well done and the luncheon was something I will never forget. It was just amazing looking over to the center tables and seeing so many veterans of this awesome genre.
Those of you who I had a chance to meet, it was great to meet you. I am sorry I did not get the chance to meet everyone. Maybe next time.
I did get tickets from tvtix.com to see Jeopardy! on Tuesday and I had a blast. That was my first time seeing Jeopardy tape.
What an awesome time.
Tim :-)

Jack Narz has already forgotten he was there.
