I notice on the clip from Brad's site that on the April Fool's episode of Wheel with Alex hosting, Johnny Gilbert announces. That made me wonder, did Charlie O Donnell announce Jeopardy that day?
-
No, Johnny Gilbert did J! too. Vanna and Pat were introduced in the same fashion as they introduced the players on J!
-
If I didn't know any better, didn't those episodes move really slowly, especially on J!
J! had moved really slowly, and didn't even complete DJ!, plus the winner walked off with $1800 or something

You make it sound like the winner won $1,800 because game play was slow. I can almost assure you that that is not the reason, whatsoever.

I believe they had, but just to be sure, had Jeopardy went to the sushi bar look by that point?

Yes.

Brandon is right. The winner had a low total because all three players missed Final Jeopardy. The FJ clue wasn't particularly hard, but the players allowed themselves to be taken aback by a preposterously worded category title (in keeping with the April Fools theme).

Final Jeopardy Category: Trinadadian Amateur Ichthyologists
Clue: This common aquarium fish was named for a Trinadadian clergyman
Paul Roder (ret. champ) 6,650 - 6,000 = 650 (ministers?)
Lori Drummond 6,200 - 6,199 = 1 (angelfish?)
Christian Stallsmith 5,500 - 4,500 = $1,000 (angelfish?)
Correct response: What is a Guppy?

At the risk of looking like I don't know which board I'm on, did the Betting Police™ put out an APB on this guy? :)
-
I think that the Betting Police would need to put out an APB for all three guys...
-
What does APB stand for?

I was debating whether to go that far, but decided not to. By my calculations, their optimum wagers would have been:
Paul: 5,751
Lori: 4,800 or 4,801
Christian: 0 (1,151 if afraid of a $0 bet; definitely no more than 4,100)
I don't think Paul's extra $249 was likely to have any effect on his chances of winning. A bit Martian, perhaps, or maybe just a number designed to prevent a Weikle-esque error. Lori, however, would've won with a correct wager, so I guess you have a point there. :)
(I guess Christian was anticipating only Paul's proper wager, and not thinking that Lori shouldn't be shooting the works. But, the only shot he had was if both of his opponents missed, so unless he was a real expert on all things fish- and Trinidad-related, he had no reason to risk anything.)

Two more items to add to this topic:
1. Sajak pointed out that Guppy referred to R. J. Lashmere Guppy
2. Christian redeemed himself well the next game with Trebek back
at the helm to a total of $18,601.

How did Pat do as host BTW?

He didn't do too badly, from what I remember...Didn't seem out of place or anything, at least not to me..

But Charlie O' announced Wheel too. IIRC he did the Opening Spiel and then announced during the bonus round after Pat and Vanna won.
