Title: Billy Bush has a new "Deal"
Post by: GS Warehouse on June 17, 2004, 10:28:29 AM
Billy Bush, who we remember from last year's failed revival of Let's Make a Deal, has been promoted from East coast reporter to co-host of Access Hollywood.  He'll take over for Pat O'Brien, who's leaving the show to anchor The Insider.

Drinks are on Mr. Allen. :-)

LMaD aside, there are a number of other ObGameShow comments that could be made.  I'll just list one: Bush joins Nancy O'Dell, who also hosts Nashville Star on USA, which hasn't been the same since it dropped its afternoon gs lineup.

Wow. That's going to make The Insider appointment television for me. I can't get enough of that talented Pat O'Brien!

Me neither! If you've got some NBA on CBS "At the Half" episodes with Pat on tape that you'd like  to trade, let me know! I've been looking forever for one from February of '86 during a 76ers-Bucks game when Pat interviewed Jack Sikma--what a corker!

Well, Billy Bush will make Access Hollywood MORE annoying and unwatchable.

But hey, you've got to hand it to Pat. After seven years of making our lives miserable at AH, he's now off to The Insider...which happens to be the new spinoff show from Entertainment Tonight!!! Let's hope he tones himself down there a bunch.

Jonathan Allen, who wishes the co-anchor job at Access should've been given to Tony Potts

"Our" lives?  My life doesn't change one iota whether Pat O'Brien hosts sports coverage, Access Hollywood, The Insider, or The Jonathan Allen Show.

In fact, I hear that our own Mr. Lemon is going to co-host The Insider with Pat just so he can play a role in driving Mr. O'Brien's detractors nuts.

The fact that this guy continues to find good work should give us budding entertainment reporter/host types LOTS of hope....

in the words of that other poster..... GEEZ!!

 Subtraction by addition.

O'Bsequious is going to make a turgid, exploitative show even worse.

Well, I liked his portrayal of Knute Rockne. :)  Seriously, how can these TV sports guys use the same professional name as other entertainers that came first? I'm thinking of Pat O'Brien, James Brown and I'm sure John Daly will someday work as a commentator somewhere.  Umm, maybe I shouldn't ask since Randy West (both of them) might be reading this.

In the words of Mike Bolton from "Office Space: "Why should I change MY name? He's the one who sucks."

Why do you assume these are all stage names? Why would a GOLFER adopt a stage name, fer Chrissake? They have every right to be recognized by their given name. Hell, my name is one mispelling away from the Chris Lemmon who starred with Hulk Hogan on "Thunder In Paradise, son to Jack? Should I have to change MY name when/if I made it big? I don't freakin' THINK so.

Oh no, I am aware those are not stage names.  It's just that it wasn't always the case that there could be identical names for performers.  It may just be a rule among SAG or AFTRA members.  Stewart Granger's real name was James Stewart, so he was forced to  change it.  Michael J. Fox added the J. to avoid confusion with Michael Fox, etc.  I think you're okay with your real name should you decide to get on the other side of the camera because of one less "m" but I thought Chris was your middle name?

It is. However, Chris Lemon is my legal name. Whether Chris is my first, second, fourth, or seventh name is nobody's business but my own. I can produce legal documentation with that name on it. What you refer to may be a SAG thing (William H. Macy comes to mind), but I don't think it's anything but voluntary among AFTRA members.)

One humorous exchange about real names happened on TTTT when someone asked Joe Garagiola if that was his real name.  Joe quickly replied "No, my real name is Nick Blake."

Speaking of Billy Bush...

I read there are six LMAD hour-long shows from 2003. When will we 'ever' see the other three? Or will they be unaired forever?

There are two unaired shows of the five made, and seeing that it's been 15 months since the last show that aired did air, don't count on seeing the unaired ones.

But aren't they required to air some of these shows in a certain form(either on the network or sending the episodes to a cabler like GSN), so players can claim their winnings?

BTW NBC, while you're giving GSN the show Next Action Star, can't you let them have the 5 LMAD specials(including the two unaired shows!) I'd really like to see them.. I'm sure GSN can air them in place of their stupid Vegas Weddings show(which premieres tomorrow) or a Kenny vs. Spenny rerun(which started reruns tonight.) Besides, based on the material in those specials, I'm sure they would be fitting for GSN's nighttime audience!

Oh, and ObGameShow: Former AH reporter Jeff Probst later hosted Rock 'n Roll Jeopardy before heading to Survivor.

NBC doesn't have to do anything and is not obligated to air the show at all--as I'm sure was explained on the release forms the contestants were supposed to read and sign before they went on the show.

At this point, "LMAD"'s rights have probably reverted back to Monty and Renegade, the show's producers.  If they want to sell the shows to GSN (and from Monty's remarks about them, I don't think that's going to happen), that's their own call.  NBC has nothing to do about it.
