In the double or nothing bonus round from 2001-2002, Tom mentions something along the lines that you can win up to $75,000.
Why did he mention this if you could surpass that amount? (I recall seeing a time where a double or nothing question would be over $100,000.

Because in all the test games that were played, we never had a situation where someone could have won more than that amount. No one ever in the test games got 10 questions right. You don't want to mention an impossibly high stake in the game, so $75,000 was picked as the reference amount. And of course then someone won $50,000 in 60 seconds, so it's change the script time!

In any of the test games, did any of the testers unprompted go for the double-or-nothing question and how many--or did you not see it coming that very few people would want to take that risk?

More of the test players went for the double or nothing; I suppose it's an easier risk to take when you are not playing for actual money :) Based on the test play we did think that more people would go for the double or nothing.
