Title: Longshot Video Request - Original Beat the Clock
Post by: Matt Ottinger on August 19, 2025, 01:08:29 PM
A couple named Richard (Dick on air?) and Sue Williamson played on the original show.  I'm afraid the surviving family members don't know any more than that.  The couple was on I've Got A Secret, and I was able to give the family that appearance, but I just don't have any classic BtC episodes.  I don't know who or how many of you might have a collection, nor how well-referenced your collection might be, but if anybody's got something, it would be huge for the family.

I have 100+ episodes on GSN tapes being digitized, I'll keep a lookout  :)

Were they on the OG CBS Primetime counterpart?, also, Tammy Warner might still have a huge collection of the OG B&W BtC herself too. Ask her about about it.

Matt, when did the couple appear on "I've Got A Secret?"   That at least might make it possible to branch out two years before or after the BTC appearance (if it was the original primetime version.   If it's daytime, forget it).   I've noticed in the past that "recurring" contestants on the primetime panel shows appeared at least two or three years apart (same contestants on TTTT or IGAS also on WML for instance).

I have 200 episodes, which I think represents the totality of what aired on GSN.   My database only lists the bonus stunt and the value for each show and whether it was won and not contestant names or the individual regular stunts.   If they knew whether or not they played the bonus stunt and if they did and what it was, I could know right away.

They appeared on Secret on April 13, 1960.  https://ivegotasecret.nicepage.io/381.html  He was one of a group of four from an Indiana company that ran a contest every year for the men to design easter bonnets for their wives.  There didn't seem to be anything special about them that would have them "recur" on the other panel shows, much less Beat The Clock.  I've come up with a lot of guesses as to how the Clock appearance could have happened, but its all speculation.  The family knows nothing of any use at all.  It seems likely that it was a daytime appearance, and I even told them that, but I promised I would make an effort.
