Title: Musical deja vu
Post by: BrandonFG on June 05, 2025, 08:29:10 PM
I asked in the Answer Machine thread whether a host has appeared on two different shows - no reboots - that used the same theme song. For Jim Peck there was that and Second Chance, along with Geoff Edwards's Shoot for the Stars and Jackpot '89.

Jamie offered this.

As for the music following, the amusement in my head:
* Love Experts theme follows Bill (host) to Strictly Confidential pilot (guest)
* Love Experts theme follows Geoff (guest) to Famous Las Words (host)
* Double Dare theme follows Alex (host) to Card Sharks (guest)
* Jackpot '74 - $50,000 a Minute (Geoff)

Not necessarily shows that made it, just observable instances :D

Any others? Host/guest combos count.

EDIT: formatting

You know, in the event that there aren't many other music cases, I feel like this could expand to a broader "Deja Vu" scope.
Not just music, but what about people?
Example: John Hatton appeared on Break the Bank when Bill was a guest, then on Blockbusters with Bill as host. The roles don't have to be different, the connecting pieces just appear together.
Back to original question, one more: The theme to Personality followed Larry Blyden when he subbed for Bill on ToaM. (At least, I assume it was always the same Cobert piece?)

Bill guested on Personality so it goes both ways with that theme.

If we're going into celebrity guests and the same theme, 7 of the 12 participants of 3oaM celebrity weeks had previously guested on Personality as well.

Did Three On a Match always use the same theme?  Years ago I got what I thought the was theme in a trade, but it was a different piece.  I was told the piece I got was the first theme to the show.  I don't know whether that's true or not.

2 more: Main theme to Cop Out followed Geoff to (The New) Treasure Hunt.
Vicki Lawrence, Nipsey Russell, and Jo Ann Worley guested on both Blankety Blanks and Double Talk.

Vicki did Double Talk but not Blankety Blanks, however Clifton Davis did do both.

Whoops, thanks. Not sure why I had Vicki stuck in my mind instead of Clifton. So is this episode guide incorrect, Vicki didn't appear in week 5? https://gameshows.fandom.com/wiki/Double_Talk/Episode_Guide

Honorable mention (aka not quite fitting the OP requirements, but close) for Geoff Edwards when he subbed for Bill Cullen on the original Chain Reaction.  When Geoff hosted the Canadian version, the theme went to Canada as well, albeit a different "mix".

I believe the intro music was one piece.  The mid-show bumper music as well as the music played when describing prize packages won was another, and I believe the end theme was yet another piece of music, based on the limited number of episodes I've had a chance to view.  The 6 or 8 eps available are from 1973 & 1974.  As for music themes prior, I do not recall even though I was alive when the show debuted back in 1971.

Audio from what could be the first episode towards the bottom of page, I'm inclined to think it only used one theme. But then again, I wasn't around yet. Maybe it changed at some point and then reverted back? Regardless, it seems like it at least started off the same.

Thank you.  I'd lost track of that site.  I changed my computer a while back and seemed to have lost some of my bookmarks.

Anyway, the theme from the possible first episode is the familiar one that I remember.  The one I got in the trade is a totally different piece - not sure what it is!
