I was in my local Walmart store and asked if a clerk if he was aware of, or could find out for me if such an item is available now or soon. On his remote computer, he showed me a listing similar to this:

I imagine they are just showing the poster image, and some photos as had been shown publicly earlier.
Meanwhile, over at eBay, I saw this listing with different packaging, and a higher price:

I'm not sure it one/the other/both is a true, legitimate product, or bootlegged.

No, there has not been an official disc release yet, or even an announcement of a release date. The only legitimate option for home viewing right now is a digital streaming rental or purchase.

Well, I'm intrigued. If you search for "luckiest man in america" on the Wal-Mart site, you actually get FOUR hits, all (interestingly) at different price points. These are clearly overseas bootlegs (it takes weeks for them to be delivered, and one listing helpfully adds "English audio"), but how does stuff like that end up on the official Wal-Mart site?

Because all major big-box retailers use their digital storefront in the same way: outsource the majority of the items listed to third-parties who can do pretty much whatever they want as long as they don't cause noticeable trouble.

Folks, last Friday the 13th (ironically enough), my Mrs. as part of an early Father's Day gift to me rented this movie through youtube. My son and I both watched it, and while it was an amusing film, there were so many inaccuracies and it left me feeling rather disappointed. It was like I was having a fever dream.
I will say the casting of all 3 contestants was VERY well done. The actor portraying Peter Tomarken was meh and rather phony sounding to me. The voice of Rod Roddy sounded nothing at all like Rod. I realize movie creators take on some artistically based licenses but this movie was just way out.
And while we have spent $6.99 in far worse ways in our life, we have also spent $6.99 in far better ways too. I felt like this movie was a real dud as they got so many things wrong as far as what actually happened. Too many scenes where the viewer was expected to suspend all disbelief. I would not recommend this film at all. Save your money and your time!

Guess you weren't paying attention when we were saying OVER and OVER again before the movie came out that the movie wasn't going to come CLOSE to actual events.

TV/comic-book writer Mark Evanier on the movie, and PYL in general -- including the fact that Mark Evanier pitched a movie version of Michael Larson's story fairly soon after his appearance as a contestant (and Bill Carruthers had someone in mind to play Michael Larson in the movie at the time).

That Carruthers thought of that particular actor for the part is another reminder of how much older Larson seemed than his actual age.

For sure. I saw the episodes first-run, and at the time I thought for sure he was in his 50s. I think he was only 35 at the time.
