Title: BUZZR Q3 2023
Post by: Blanquepage on June 21, 2023, 11:39:31 AM
July 1: Weekend morning infomercials will be trimmed by 2 hours, and programming will begin @ 8:30 with Talkabout and a Feud triple header.

The first rounds of Pick & Play voting (https://woobox.com/fxxyw4) are open, covering June 30 and July 7. (Yes, that's the correct URL -- Buzzr has outsourced this.) The matchups include a number of versions that aren't on Buzzr's usual schedule along with one show that hasn't been on Buzzr at all (don't get excited, though -- it's Hole in the Wall). You're asked to vote on 16 pairs, but when you've finished voting, your picks are presented as "Your Predictions" in a March Madness–style bracket. It isn't completely clear whether the choices you make affect what gets aired or whether Buzzr has already decided what's getting aired and is using this interface as a way for viewers to "play along."

Sad to see Jack Narz Concentration being placed back in the vaults. It was one of my favorite shows on Buzzr. It's been about 11 months since they took it off. Maybe it will show up in a Pick & Play? With all the hours they devote to showing Classic Concentration, it's a shame they can't devote one to showing Narz Concentration, say on the weekend.

I'm reasonably certain that was the first taped episode.

So far, they're really sending love to the fans and archivists. I'd never seen the Bruner WML premiere until tonight. Did it air on GSN once? Probably.literally once?  ;D Combined with what appears to be episode 1 of Sweep, I'd call it nice atonement for that "meh" One and Done stunt.

Went to go and vote for the next batch of shows - was round one and two the initial voting period or was there another one that just closed and I've just missed it?  No worries either away, just curious.

Worth noting that one of the big sweep bonuses involved hauling a live lobster back to the counter.

Round 1 and 2 were simultaneous.  New voting (for what I assume is Weeks 3 and 4) starts a week from today.

Nice to see WML, TTTT and Monty's BTC if only for one evening. I believe we saw the first Blyden and Bruner shows of WML. Plus they got Martha Mitchell as a panelist on TTTT. How did G-T pull that off? Very enjoyable.

Based off of the comments made by Mark and Bill during the episode it sounds like it was the first episode Bill guest hosted of that series to keep with the theme. Maybe it could've meant the first episode of that season he guest hosted.

Also, I think it just turns out people from all over like game shows and it wouldn't surprise me if word of Mrs. Mitchell's fandom of the show reached someone at G-T through a party or something and they offered her the chance to be on the panel. The same way other famous public figures appeared on the WML? panel over the years.

It looks like Martha Mitchell was making the TV rounds in that era, appearing on Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin’s shows, as well as Laugh-In. All of those appearances were about two years before Watergate.

They did a brief (1 minute) dramatization of Mitchell on TTTT on the first episode of “Gaslit”.

An effort was made on the set, I’ll say that much.

/the nude call girl watching it on tv is interesting, though

I don't know why, but Buzzr seems limited to the first season of '80s LMAD this time around. They've cycled back to the start of it again after two runs in a row.

An odd drop of fresh episodes of "Classic Concentration"
July 17 at 4PM (848-851, 851 features BB King)

July 19 at 4PM (856 and 857)

Weekend Blockbusters gets to #312 on 8/5 before taking an oddly small step back to #293 on 8/6.
Assuming things remain constant, #312 will air again on 9/9. Perhaps to be in synch with a Fall refresh? Ever hopeful.

Meanwhile, I have no idea what Buzzr is doing with Press Your Luck. Apparently I missed the resumption of new-to-Buzzr episodes in 518 and 519 (or maybe those two just plain didn't air?), but 520 and 521 aired on the afternoon of Saturday, July 22. The next two episodes will air on the afternoon of Saturday, July 29, followed by the next two on the afternoon of Sunday, July 30. But then the next two new-to-Buzzr episodes air overnight in the early morning of Sunday, August 6, and Monday, August 7.

518 and 519 aired in some marathon two or three years ago (I think one of the contestants came back on the current version) so they got skipped this time through.

They've been running promos during tonight's Password Plus marathon mentioning what they have planned for the rest of the year. Also mentioned were another Bob-tober, Veterans Day and Halloween marathons, the return of Betty White Christmas, and another Black Friday Frenzy.

For Barker, they included clips of him on Tattletales and Combs Feud.

Nice to see the BW shows return! Maybe they can also do a 2 hour block of B&W Password, Beat the Clock, and The Price Is Right, on weekends or on alternate days?

I would like to see Narz Conentration return, and Whew! I wasn't a fan of them keeping Talk About over Whew!

It's ironic that lately GSN has been airing more rare material than Buzzr. GSN aired 45 year old episodes of Match Game 78 never rerun, while Buzzr keeps skipping the same syndicated Match Game episodes that have been skipped for decades. Who would have thought!

I realize there are far fewer of us who care about the ins and outs of the B&W shows, plus I know I shouldn't have any expectations that they would go to much trouble for programming that's going to air in the middle of the night, but it's getting harder to be excited by these announcements.  Shake loose the 160 or so Secret shows from the fifties than GSN never aired, and you will have my attention.

Interesting guide data error for Buzzr on my Channels DVR software today: an airing of Whew! is on the schedule every day this week at 4:30pm.

What actually aired was an episode of Classic Concentration, which matches the buzzrtv.com schedule.

Maybe something to keep an eye on, would be nice to see it return.

Yeah most of the guide services have the placeholder schedule for this week, which is making recording things with PVR software a pain.

It’s not an error with the channel programming software.  The person in charge of the scheduling for cable TV’s programming guide forgot to put in the right schedule for this week, so the default placeholder old schedule is up for this week instead.  It’s programmed and fixed for next week though, so whoever is in charge better fix the schedule for this week soon!

Obligatory Classic Concentration freshness post. Starting October 9th another (possibly) 30 episodes go fresh (although they may not seem fresh since the entirety of the '90 Tournament of Champions is included and that is on YouTube now). Fresh shows will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (all three) and Thursday (just the first show).

If this is a 3-week flight of new shows, barring missing shows, this should take us up to episode number 909.

Buzzr's Chills + Thrills is a 4 day stunt running from 10/28 to 10/31, with new-to-buzzr content the first three nights, and Halloween itself featuring a mashup of the first three days' reruns AND a couple of additional new shows. The 3 hour blocks run from 8p-11p ET on 10/28 to 10/30, then in a 10 hour marathon from Noon to 10PM on the 31st; as far as I know, the majority of this has never rerun on Buzzr including all of $ale:

October 28th:
Sale (NBC Daytime) 1483 & 1484 (Trick or Treat Week 1/2)
To Tell the Truth 66 1153 (DAYTIME SHOW)
What's My Line 60_0006 (Peter Lorre, 2/14/6)
I've Got a Secret 60_0007 (Peter Lorre, 2/17/60) - (very uncommon for a pre-1961 IGAS to turn up)
(Peter Lorre did both panel shows within 3 days of each other?)

October 29th:
Sale (NBC Daytime) 1485 & 1486 (Trick or Treat Week 3/4)
Family Feud (Dawson ABC) 77-192 (Halloween '77) (ONLY running on the 29th) (I believe this is one of the first appearances of a 1970s Dawson ep on the network)
Family Feud (Combs SYN) 91 - 4-614
Family Feud (Combs CBS) 89 - 341
Family Feud (Combs SYN) 89 2-226

October 30th:
Sale (NBC Daytime) 1487 & 1488 (Trick or Treat Week 5/6 - Halloween was on the 31st so they did 6 eps)
To Tell the Truth 76 - 2891
To Tell the Truth 91 - 156
Family Feud (Karn) 04-060
Family Feud (O'Hurley) 06-063 (I think this is John's first Buzzr appearance?)

October 31st (largely but not entirely reruns) drops Family Feud '77 but adds Family Feud '94...and the Newlywed Game:
CBS 60s Panel shows rerun from 12p-2p
Sale Trick or Treat Week reruns from 2p-5p
Family Feud 94-045 (Dawson revival version) (ONLY runs on 10/31)
Combs FF 1989 hour reruns from 6p-7p
Combs FF (SYN) 91 - 4-614 reruns at 7p
To Tell the Truth 76 & 91 rerun from 730p-830p
Family Feud (Karn) rerun at 830p
Family Feud (O'Hurley) rerun at 9pm
Newlywed Game 96 1-063 (with special guest co-host Elvira) runs at 9:30pm (10/31 ONLY).

***Asterisks on Newlywed Game; Might? be wrong. I know as a certainty that Buzzr was trying to work out which episode she appears in because they wanted to air it; they skipped the show when running through that portion of the season a few weeks ago, and it's out of accord with the episodes running immediate after or earlier that week. It's not in the promo and their website descriptions are generally useless. As far as I know this is the Elvira episode, but I haven't seen anything promoting it, although in general Newlywed isn't something they've rushed to include in promotions period.

N156: Sheila Mills, real-life bride to Universal Studios' Frankenstein...who also plays his bride at Universal.
