Title: Long-running shows with no surviving hosts
Post by: Unrealtor on January 01, 2022, 12:25:36 PM
As far as I can recall, Betty White was the last living person to have served as host of an episode of Password, after she and Allen swapped places during the ABC run.

The only household-name level shows that come to mind that have had multiple permanent hosts over multiple non-consecutive runs where none of them are still with us are What's My Line and, for a few months in 2020-21, Jeopardy.

After that I start getting down to shows like Blockbusters, which meet the criteria I set but don't feel as significant. Is there anything I'm forgetting?

Only if you don't count Buzzr's YouTube episodes that aired in 2015.

If you count Temptation, Rossi Moreale is still with us.

I’d add 64/128K Question though. Prior to a few months ago, we could’ve also added Name That Tune.

Forgot about Temptation.

On the flip side, all of the Hollywood Squares hosts are alive and well.

Unless you count Alex Trebek filling in

I can't think of anything else longer-lived that's been unmentioned other than Two For The Money and The Name's The Same...

Play Your Hunch lasted from 1958 to 1963. Hosted by Merv Griffin, Gene Rayburn and Robert Q Lewis, who have all left us. It was also on all of the "Big 3" networks.

If 5 years constitutes a long enough run, add a 4th network (DuMont) and Down You Go.

You could also add Masquerade Party, unless you count The Masked Singer/Dancer.
