A Match Game 76 ticket is worth this much?! (http://\"http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2221077084\")
I wish I had that much disposable income.
-
Note that it says "pristine condition"....
Although I think that may be a little much even for a pristine condition MG76 ticket.
-
Holy crap! Wow, I can't believe that. I think I could make some and sell them! J/K I couldn't do that. But that is absolutely crazy!
-
$285 for that ticket, mmm? Further evidence that P.T. Barnum was right on the money.
-
If it were possible to use the ticket to go back and see an actual taping of MG76, maybe. (It does say "unused" :))
-
OK, someone unbury Gene Rayburn and call Fred Wostbrock... I will call Brett, Charles, Richard, Fannie, Betty, Bob, and Zha Zha. Hey CBS, put the MG studio up and clean it...
Charles
P.S. If I was popular and have tons of money...

Yes, but the ticket does not guarantee admission, lol
Um, can't quite get over that disclaimer. Why not just release one ticket for each seat in the audience?

Most likely just like almost all other taped shows, they want to ensure a full audience.

We'll it looks as if we are going to have another high priced ticket....

This just really strikes me as mondo bizarre. I know we have some ticket collectors on the forum. Are Match Game '7X tickets really so rare as to command over a hundred dollars?

If you reeeeely want something it is worth a lot. As soon as everybody who reeely wants one (19 people) has one the market will drop out. There could be a good number of tickets out there, when you think about how many taping days there must have been for the six years or so it was on multiplied by the number of seats in the studio.

Boy, I sure hope so.
Cha-ching!

~320 seats in 33
x 2 tape days per aired week
x 52 weeks/year
x 9 year run (approximating)
= about 300,000; not counting tickets which weren't used or excess tickets printed up by CBS.
Also take into account how many of those tickets were thrown away or are in anything less than pristine condition.

The thing that amazes me is that this is something that is SO EASY to forge. I mean, give me an hour and Photoshop and I can have one of those ready to go, which I will be happy to let go of for the low low price of $50 a pop.

Well, a few years ago(not sure exactly when, not more than two), I was active in collecting tickets off eBay, including Match Game(no surprise there, look at my user name!). Anyway, I have six of them, and I KNOW I didn't pay more than $50 for any, and I can't even remember paying over $20. I dunno, maybe there wasn't a market back then. I know, as much as I want one, I refuse to pay big $$$ for one of the 70's MG home games, because when I was still searching eBay for them, they always seemed to be expensive. Ah well...

26 weeks per year, Mr. Math Teacher. When you tape two weeks of shows in one weekend you only tape every other weekend.
150,000 tickets x $285 = $42,750,000. For tickets that are not supposed to be sold.

...and look what poor Allen Ludden and Betty White are getting:

There's also an autographed-by-Gene Rayburn home game that's a little steep:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=3382831505 (http://\"http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60&item=3382831505\")
I'm looking at these at the thought of the 'shill' bid comes to mind...
JOSH
P.S. I have a few "Price Is Right" props I will be posting to eBay later. The starting price for autographed "$1002" pricetag I have will be the GNP of Nerdocrumbesia multiplied by the number of members online right now minus 3. @:-)

But weren't there two sessions per tape day, one for the M, Tu, W shows and one after everybody got liquored up, when the Th, F, and MG PM shows were taped?
I wasn't implying that they taped 52 weeks per year. I meant that there were 52 weeks of shows taped per year. Maybe this slight alteration of my original equation will make more sense...

I stand by my original approximation. Sorry if my original reply was vague.

From 1979-82, once the show left CBS Daytime and went to daily syndication, 35 weeks of shows were done a year, not 52.

Same difference. I'm glad we could see eye-to-eye on this one, Chris. :-)
I had a hunch my math wasn't that bad. ;-)

The information on the ticket regarding the taping jogged my memory--it's for a week of shows where they had the show's all-time (or ABC run) champion (whose name is on the ticket but obscured by the autographs, or I'd write the exact name) team up with Elizabeth Montgomery against a new team of celebs every match (it would seem to me that they had gone to the best-two-of-three game format by this time). I seem to also remember that all of the winnings that week went to charity. An interesting little twist, although unless the shows were later in the month it wasn't exactly a sweeps stunt (if they were even doing those back then).

Lou Retram I believe was the name of the all time champion in ABC Password history, winning around $10K, as we reported on Usenet years back.
-
Lou Retram wanted to be a writer for P+. He showed up at the first writers' meeting not having written any material (a writers' meeting is where the producer meets with the writers and goes over the material they have written). He then came up with the notion that he alone should write the show and that there was no need for any other writers. Howard Felsher summarily fired him.

Didn't this achievement qualify him for a spot on Password All-Stars?

He did indeed do a week of Password as a celeb, ISTR it being reported on Usenet that it was during the All-Stars run.

If the guy had tried to pull that stuff in today's penny-pinching, multi-tasking environment, he would have been asked to replace all the writers and Howard Felsher.

Another champ that did "Password All Stars" was Martha Peukert. I remember reading TVGuide that week and thinking "who's she?"
I'm don't think Lou's name was mentioned in the TVGuide listings.

When you look at all those special weeks they did, I guess the move to "Password All Stars" shouldn't be too surprising - a lot of those weeks were "all star" weeks anyway.
Does anybody remember exactly what the "Quarterly Contest" was (besides something that was held four times a year)?

I think it was something on the order of a Tournament of Champions, except four times a year. I have the feeling Aaron remembers more than I do.
