I have to think this is the last extension for them- but I thought that the previous extension would be the last one for Alex at least.
(and a possible successor for Pat got taken off the board- at least in my eyes- yesterday when Ryan Seacrest was named as the new co-host of Live along with Kelly Ripa..so I wonder what they're thinking about what happens when they do leave)
-
Does this surpass Barker for longevity?
-
Barker was on TPIR for what, 35 seasons?
This is Trebek's 33rd season and Pat and Vanna are on 34 or 35 syndicated, if memory serves.

By two seasons, yes it would. It would put Trebek at 36 as well.

At this point, I'm more surprised with each passing season that Johnny Gilbert hasn't decided to hang it up, although, when I had a family member compete last season and went to the taping, I wouldn't have guessed how old he is from how energetic he was and how well he moved around.

Sajak passed Barker last year. He started in '81.

I'm pretty sure when you're Ryan Seacrest, your contracts don't preclude you from pursuing an opportunity to work two months a year for a ton more money than Live! is paying you (though I am sure his Live! deal provides quite adequate compensation) if you so desire.

For Sajak, yes, if you count reruns, he officially eclipsed Barker on February 5 of this year.
In general for the both of them, hats off, and of course, the speculation will forever continue. Back in January when Sony announced possibly selling off their TV division, and Les Moonves was listed as a potential buyer, I thought about a possible future for Jeopardy. Hope you're ready for this idea. (https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=UUQ-3QEE_SM)
