Title: 2-Minute Drill
Post by: brianhenke on January 25, 2004, 07:59:04 AM
Last night, in the aftermath of what happened on Hoosier Millionaire, realized something...that ESPN's 2-Minute Drill may have been cursed.

    Three panelists (at least) who appeared on the show during its 2000-2001 run have died:

    Dale Earnhardt, killed at the Daytona 500, February 18, 2001;
    Dick Schaap, died in Dec. 2001;
    and Tug McGraw, of cancer this month.

    In addition, second-season panelist Bob Huggins (the UC Bearcats basketball coach) suffered a near-fatal heart attack in 2002. A contestant was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 (ironically, ESPN decided to air the second season championship on that day; Kenny Mayne had said the finals would air on 9/11) attack on the World Trade Center. Also, add  in the fact that ESPN totally ignored the show's third season - not promoting it, moving it to late night, etc.

     100 plus 100 equals 600?

     We want some more pro wrestling (STILL) and NASCAR questions!

Perhaps if the people mentioned from 2-Minute Drill died in freak accidents or in some ironic way, such as the one that killed the Hoosier Millionaire contestant (i.e. drilled to death for 2 minutes, for example) I might go along with you.  Granted, Dale Earnhardt did die in an accident, but it was hardly ironic and seeing he was a race car driver not exactly unexpected.

Sorry to burst bubbles, but everyone is going to die.  The fact that a few people who list working on the same show within their resume have all died does not equal a curse.  Correlation does not equal causation.

If you think this is eerie, Brian, tonight's GSN airing of Celeb Weakest Link features Fred Berry and Nell Carter, both of whom have passed away since this show was taped just about two years ago.

I think there is definitely some kind of conspiracy going on with game shows and people dying.

Tic Tac Dough had an over-80 tournament not long after it started......I bet a lot, if not all, of those contestants have wound up dying!

Yup, it's cursed.

Watch What's My Line? early tomorrow morning and count the corpses there while you're at it.

 How 'bout that, I didn't even know they were sick.

If you could find a tie-in to Nascar somehow, you'd have the Grand Trifecta.

 But "I" won't make Nascar connections in posts :)

Here is a Chris Berman quote that could fit to my original post:

    "One's an accident, two's a trend, three's ...oh-oh."

     We're dealing with a show that debuted nearly four years ago, not fifty.

I honestly cannot believe that you think you're on to something with this.

You mention Dale Earnhardt Sr, Dick Schapp, and Tug McGraw as examples.

DESr. died due to a race. He's not the first one - there were many others before him.
Dick Schapp died due to complications from surgery. Many people have.
Tug McGraw died from cancer. How many people have died from cancer?

 Yes, he sure is.

My mistake, and I have went back and edited my post. :)
