Story from the Indianapolis Star (http://\"http://www.indystar.com/articles/9/114147-5309-102.html\")
What a sad turn of events.
-
It'll be interesting to see how they handle this tonight.
-
I believe I read that his family made the decision to have the episode air..
But in any case, a real damn shame.
-
Well, did anyone watch it? How did they handle it?
-
I am convinced this is how I will meet my demise. I will hit the metaphorical jackpot in some aspect of my life and have four hours to enjoy it before I'm pushing up daisies.
While I'm at it, I am hereby putting the world on notice: If anyone plays bagpipes during my funeral, I'm getting out of the box to wrap those infernal bagpipes around the neck of the person playing them. I will then get back in the box and continue on to my eternal reward.
My sincere condolences to this man's family and friends.
-
The show aired and there was an in memoriam slide at the end.
"An old man turned ninety-eight/he won the lottery and died the next day."
--Alanis Morissette, "Ironic"

Wow. Just wow.
I can understand how this man's family and friends must feel right now. My thoughts are with them.

<dialing phone....ringing>Hello, Bagpipe-Mart? I need some lessons. Why? Well, I am going to a funeral. I have a wager to see if a dead man can get up from his casket and kill me with the bagpipes. I say he won't do it....

I saw that same article on the Prof's site.
And it says that the guy who hit that HM winner won't be charged.
What I want to know is: WHY???? Why not file charges?

Well, looking at the whole thing from a neutral angle, it looks like Mr. Atwood was extremely poorly prepared to be out walking at night. In addition, we don't know if he was walking against a Don't Walk signal, or any of a dozen potential extenuating circumstances.
Do you want a guy to face manslaughter charges and possible jail time for something that appears to have been a genuine honest-to-God unfortunate accident on both sides of the fence? Before you answer that question, remember that guy driving the truck could just as easily have been YOU.
-
OK. "Forgive me for I have been sinned...."

You better let the funeral home know not to dress you in a kilt, either.
Are you really of Scottish descent, or do you just have a thing for bagpipes?
ObGameShow: A guy from Philly named Rufus Harley plays jazz bagpipes. Great sounding stuff. If you ever saw him on the nighttime "To Tell the Truth" or "I've Got a Secret" in the mid 60's you'd like bagpipe music for sure. Rufus Harley is alive and well and still the world's only jazz bagpipe player, playing every week in Philly.

The statistics for 2003 are in: last year bagpipe music killed over 1,200 people.
The sound made by bagpipes resonates with the intercellular fluids of the central nervous system. Those normally-viscous fluids then become aquaeous, that is, having the consistency of water. The cells are thus rendered non-funcitonal. If this happens to enough cells the victim dies.
Bob Barker and PETA are about to launch a joint campaign to eliminate bagpipes because they sound too much like animals being tortured.
