Title: 2016-17 time slot thread
Post by: aaron sica on August 07, 2016, 08:04:31 PM
starts this year in August.

Millionaire is moving in the Harrisburg-Lebanon-Lancaster-York market - from WPMT-43 (Fox, York), where it aired a double-run from 1pm-2pm, to WGAL-8 (NBC, Lancster) where it will air at 12:30pm, replacing the John Tesh-hosted "Intelligence For Your Life".

With this move, Millionaire has been on all of the "big 4" stations in this market, as it was on WHTM-27 (Harrisburg, ABC) from 2002-2006, WHP-21 (Harrisburg, CBS) from 2006-2008, and WPMT from 2008-now.

Not sure about any of the other stations here in this market (Louisville), but the decision was made here at WHAS to drop Celebrity Name Game. We've started running ads for it's replacement (TD Jakes).  From my understanding, it'll be the first time since the 1997-98 season we haven't aired at least one syndicated game show.

What aired for the other 29 minutes?

Celebrity Name Game is reportedly on the move in Boston. A leaked draft schedule of post-NBC WHDH has it on from 1-2 PM (https://twitter.com/BostonMediaNews/status/766830500015136768). No idea of where it would land until the new year, probably 9-10 AM (it's current time on WSBK) on sister WLVI.

The timeslot might be a slight upgrade, but getting into the hot mess that WHDH and WLVI will soon become might hurt more than help. Related to the same move, the second double run of Feud is moving from 11-Midnight on WLVI to 8-9 PM on WHDH.

Harvey Feud stays on WTVZ, but it moves to 7-8 p.m. It hasn't aired in that hour here since the Combs era.

WGAL may have been a little presumptous  - WWTBAM is not airing at 12:30 quite yet. September 12 is the season premiere date, IIRC, and per Zap2It, that's when WGAL starts airing it.

I'm waiting to see what New York has but I don't know how much change there really is going to be.

I know at least two hours of afternoon TV are opening up with FABlife and The Bill Cunningham Show leaving the airwaves but am pretty certain that at least one of those hours is going to be spoken for. The shows that would be affected potentially would be CNG and Millionaire, the former of which airs at 4 PM in the double run as of this moment.

The recent trend in New York appears to be 4 PM newscasts and considering how much WPIX has been expanding their news program over the last few years it would not surprise me a bit if they were to swap CNG out of the 4 PM hour and use it to launch another newscast. (ETA: such a move would give them three straight hours of news on weekdays, which would be the longest in New York; WABC and WNBC currently top out at 2:30 while WNYW and WCBS have the standard ninety minutes.)

Millionaire I don't think is going back to daytime on WABC...I know some rumblings were made that the O&Os were gonna go back to having it on in dayparts but they did pick up RightThisMinute for the coming season and Disney went to all that trouble to secure WLNY as an affiliate last year (although you can't get that as an over the air channel in most of the market). We shall see.

Detroit gets second run episodes of Millionaire and Celebrity Name Game starting at 9am starting 9/12. First run Millionaire airs at 3pm. Third run Family Feud airs at 3:30pm. All of these changes are on WWJ CBS62. Everything else remains the same.

KABC will be running "Millionaire" at 1:00 (based on a promo they were running during the Sunday night game shows).

Guess I'd better specify that I mean 1:00 P.M., given that they currently have it on at 2:07 A.M.

All good, kind sir. :)

Speaking of syndicated offerings...does anybody know if Crime Watch Daily got renewed for a second season? I found it strange that they went into reruns because I thought it was supposed to be like an Inside Edition type show and usually shows like that air new episodes every day.

Went ahead to see if I could find anything out about WABC's schedule and apparently it's status quo. Millionaire isn't moving out of its timeslot at 1:37 AM and WLNY is keeping it on at 4:00 PM as it did last year. Interestingly enough, the 2:00 PM slot is "to be announced", which means they didn't think to go that far ahead for some reason. (They being the compilers at TV Guide.)

For WPVI, the ABC O&O in Philadelphia, Zap2It is showing Millionaire at 2pm and again at 1:07am (after Nightline).  RightThisMinute will air at 2:30pm.  Hopefully this is the case for the other O&Os.

WPMT has "promoted" CNG from a 6pm & 2:30am airing to a double-run at 1pm to replace WWTBAM. Feud had a quadruple run (12pm hour *and* 2pm hour). The noon hour was reruns, and the 2pm the new episodes - 2pm is now RightThisMinute, with the new episodes moving to 6pm and 6:30pm.

I think that about confirms it for New York as WPVI is its twin.

RightThisMinute has been double run for the last few years here though, with WNYW and WLNY carrying an hour a day. That's why I figured the trend would continue.

But boy oh boy, how strange that's gonna be now in New York if that's indeed how it turns out.

Looks like it did. Why don't you take a seat over there, please, because the new title is "Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen" as of September 12. :P

Changes for game shows in Seattle - Tacoma:

WWTBAM moves to its fourth (at least) different station in the market: KIRO (CBS - 7) at 3:00 & 3:30 pm.  The Bold and the Beautiful and RightThisMinute move an hour earlier, displacing FABLife.  KIRO also continues with LMAD & TPIR at 9 and 10 am, respectively. Meanwhile, KSTW (CW - 11) replaces Millionaire with reruns of Hot in Cleveland and The Middle.  They still have two double runs of Feud, from 4 - 5 pm (reruns) and from 6 - 7 pm (new episodes as of 9/12.)

WWTBAM will directly oppose Celebrity Name Game in the 3:00 hour on JOEtv (KZJO - 22).  CNG had been in single first-run on JOEtv's sister station KCPQ (Fox - 13) at 6 pm; effective 9/12, reruns of Modern Family (which followed CNG at 6:30) will extend to a double run in that hour. The secondary double run of CNG on JOEtv at 8 & 8:30 am will be replaced with Yet Another Judge Show. ::)

Thanks for the heads up, and holy moly is that a lot of deck chairs moving about.

/JOEtV should be the sister station as KCPQ is the FOX affil and channel 10 useta was previously independent/WB/MyTV/this deal now, but that's a small quibble.
///KOMO, KONG, KSTW, KIRO sounds like a lot but the show has been on consistently since 2002, so that's a change every four years.

It did...looking over the TV listings, Chris Hansen is the new host.

Other than Feud moving into the 7:00 hour, everything else here stays the same. Fun fact I noticed...with that move, there's now three games airing at 7:30 pm in my area: Jeopardy!, Feud and Celebrity Name Game. I imagine that hasn't happened here since sometime in the mid-80s. IIRC, J! aired against Davidson's Squares and The New Newlywed Game or All New Dating Game at 7:30.

It's about time that WPMT moved Feud to an evening slot. It's only been doing well in the ratings for a few years now. I thought it curious last year when they slotted CNG as a double-run at 6pm.

Thanks for this, wouldn't have found this otherwise since BAM's homepage still doesn't list this (my) market under its list under 'find your station'. The only problem now is trying to balance it with Countdown, which is on during the same time.

This also now competes with WPRI's LMaD, though more choices for shows is never a bad thing. Speaking of WPRI I'd be surprised if WJ! moved at all, they've been there in their 7/7:30 slots ever since both went syndicated.

AFAIK, it's now the #1 syndicated game show? I figured either they would do that, or it would go to another station in the market, but for 7pm-8pm prime access, that would prove to be difficult in our market.

The shiftings of Millionaire's time slots are very encouraging. Most of the reports here seem like positive changes. (It stays at 12:30pm on WJRT ABC12 in Flint-Saginaw-Bay City.) I'll be interested to see what effects, if any, it has on the ratings.

So apparently here's your final New York lineup for the coming season.

Millionaire- at the very least will air in its current 1:37 slot on WABC. Figure it'll return to its 2 PM perch as well (TV Guide says TBA but WPVI is its schedule twin, so...). WLNY is replacing it with Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

CNG- staying at 4 and 4:30 weekdays on WPIX.

Feud- first run stays at 6:30, double run follows at 7. Daytime rerun double run relocated to the 3 PM hour. Still airing on WWOR.

Jeopardy and Wheel once again hold down the 7 PM hour on WABC as they have for over 25 years.

Chicago:

Millionaire stays on "The U Too" (26.2 and 48.1), but the double-run moves from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

Celebrity Name Game stays in its 10:00am double-run on WGN.

Family Feud's rerun hour moves from WFLD-32 to the other Fox O&O, WPWR-50 at 1:00pm. The new double-run stays on WPWR-50 at 5:00pm.

WLS-7 has Jeopardy at 3:30pm, Wheel at 6:30pm, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, and let us never speak of Katie Couric again, amen.

I'm interested to see the answer myself. Or if there were any other markets that have aired Millionaire on the same station at the same time since it premiered.

I was kinda surprised that, after they all started snapping it up, that not all of ABC's O&Os got it. WLS to the best of my knowledge never had it and KABC only got it within the last two years.

In my market, it's not so much of a time-period upgrade as a station upgrade. As Aaron Sica mentioned, the show goes from a 1pm airing on WPMT, the Fox affiliate, to a 12:30pm airing immediately following the noon news, on the dominant NBC affiliate, WGAL. It replaces the John Tesh "Intelligence" show, which sat in that slot for two years.

Also as Aaron mentioned, WGAL is the last of the major stations in our market to air Millionaire. It is an encouraging development, but it also might be  a marriage of convenience, as there were probably only a few half-hour shows available to program in that slot before Days of our Lives at 1pm. There may have been some additional station commercial avails added into the deal for some of these stations this year, to entice them to take the show.

WPMT did the show no favors during its run, and the ratings books often showed hashmarks during those early afternoon hours. WGAL will only provide a ratings improvement.

An addendum to this: WJRT is also airing the double-run of Millionaire for the first time, at 1:07am. It looks like the double-run episodes this season are again new, same-season episodes.

For Lansing, WLAJ adds Celebrity Name Game back to back from 9-10am weekdays.

The second run Millionaire episodes are new for the first few weeks, and then they add the first run episodes as repeats. If you don't live in a double run market, those episodes usually will air in January.

WJRT aired Millionaire at 4:30pm, the first season. It was paired with Pyramid. When ABC gave back the time slot, WJRT placed it there and left it there. Good to see the show not getting a death time slot in the Flint market.

There is apparently one other change in Cleveland, and it's odd.

Celebrity Name Game is getting the double run treatment, with one airing on WKYC-3 at 2 PM and the other airing on WUAB-43, not a sister station to WKYC, at 2 AM.  WUAB is also getting a weekend airing of CNG, for now at 4:30 PM on Saturdays.

Another small change in, as Mitch Groff calls, it, the HLLY market (Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York). At noon, WHP-21 (CBS) has replaced the religious "Life Today" program with "Daytime Jeopardy". It had been airing on sister station 21.3 (My CW Central PA) at 10:30pm previously.

This is the first game show to get the noon slot on WHP since the ill-fated 1998 "Match Game" revival.

Got curious, since it's still my "home" market deep down in my heart, what's going on in Nashville for the fall, and got one interesting (at least to me) surprise:

Family Feud:
11:00 AM: WZTV (FOX) (New - now in Quadruple Run) (Replaces WWTBAM)
5:00 PM: WUXP (MyTV)
6:00 PM: WUXP (MyTV)
6:30 PM: WUXP (MyTV)

Celebrity Name Game:
11:30 AM: WZTV (FOX)
5:30 PM: WUXP (MyTV)

Jeopardy!:
5:00 PM: WZTV (FOX) (Moves from 6 PM) (Pretty sure this is first run J!'s first time out of the 6 PM slot *somewhere* in Nashville since...possibly ever or at least since the 80s)

Wheel of Fortune:
6:30 PM: WKRN (ABC)*
*During NFL Season, Monday's episode airs at 1:35 AM.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire:
12:30 PM: WSMV (NBC)
1:37 AM: WSMV (NBC)
The double run is resurrected in the market, the primary run gets an upgrade, and WSMV is carrying a first run syndicated game show for the first time in somewhere between 20-25 years. I know they were airing Wheel in the early-mid 90s, but lost it to WKRN [ABC] at some point, and I have zero recollection of anything in at least the last two decades)

No changes in Austin that I can see other than that the third and fourth episodes of Family Feud have been dropped from KBVO's late-night schedule since the last time I paid attention. The standard double-run is on sister station KNVA at 6:00 and 6:30.

Wheel of Fortune stays on KXAN at 6:30, a spot that I'm pretty sure it's occupied since the beginning of its syndicated run. Jeopardy is on KXAN at 4:00 (Daytime) and 4:30 (first-run.)

KEYE keeps its afternoon game show block, with Millionaire (3:00) and Celebrity Name Game (3:30) immediately after Let's Make a Deal.

So the final lineup in New York is as follows:

-Jeopardy, Wheel, and Feud all keep their first run slots. That's 7-8 on WABC for the former two and 6:30-7:30 for Feud on WWOR.

-Millionaire's double run returns to WABC. Primary moves from late night to 2:00 PM preceding RightThisMinute, while the double run episode returns to late night and airs at 1:35 AM preceding Celebrity Page (the former OK!TV, which changed its name midway through last season). (ETA: apparently this is inaccurate, as when I had flipped over one night RightThisMinute was on. So either someone on my channel guide is asleep at the wheel or the show was preempted that day. Leaning toward the former)

-CNG keeps the double run on WPIX but it's now split up. WPIX dropped its 6:30 newscast and moved CNG back there. The second episode now airs at 3:00 AM. The hour it previously occupied is now filled with a second episode of The Steve Wilkos Show, which is still on after all this time.

-the Feud rerun double run moves to the 3:00 PM hour on WWOR. Meaning if you just can't get enough of Steve Harvey, you can watch him for two straight hours (his talk show airs at 2:00 on WNBC).

Only change in Boise is Millionaire and CNG moving from My Net (and now also ION) station KTRV back to previous station KNIN (FOX), airing at the same slots of 5-6 PM. KTRV switched to ION due to financial problems stemming from losing FOX in 2011.

I don’t think the first year of the double-run of Millionaire in my market is going smoothly so far. These are the episodes that I’ve seen so far. (Very unspecific I know, but I’m going off recollections)

Monday afternoon: Episode with Yo-Yo's first part of her game
Monday night: Episode with older fellow

Tuesday afternoon: Second half of older fellow's game
Tuesday night: Second half of older fellow's game

Wednesday afternoon: Episode where early question is about Greenland not being covered in ice
Wednesday night: Episode where early question is about Greenland not being covered in ice

Thursday afternoon: Lynn Belliveau continues her game (I did not see her play yesterday)

Looking at the transcripts posted so far at WWTBAM Bored, it seems that the Tuesday double-run and Wednesday double-runs aired in the "first-run" spot in my market accidentally, and now I'm back on track. Does anyone have an air calendar or the ability to corroborate my assumptions?

A few changes in the Atlanta market, one of which is a tad of a head-scratcher ...

CNG was demoted by WUPA (CW) from 6:30p, where it presided its first two seasons, to 1:30am. It's replacement is FF, where WUPA has decided to air in a TWO-HOUR BLOCK from 6-8p (may be pre-empted by Atlanta Falcons programming during NFL season).

WWTBAM gets a slight time slot improvement on WPCH (Independent) going from 3p to 4p for a one-hour block.

It's replacement is FF, where WUPA has decided to air in a TWO-HOUR BLOCK from 6-8p

So basically they're picking up the GSN feed.

If that's what combining both packages, which I assume is what's being done, into one continuous two hour block means.

There are four weekday runs of Feud, so that's what they're airing.  There are also four weekend episodes available, so one station can air up to 24 episodes in one week. (My station airs 14, for comparison sake... double run weekdays and all four weekend episodes.)

It was merely a comment to imply that GSN runs too damn much Family Feud.
