Perry? Eubanks? The card holder? The one for the contestants? The one for the Money Cards?

/I know, I know

It's a fair question. We're a knowledgeable group but we can't read minds, and I don't know what bit of scenery he means from which version. Specificity in asking questions like this will help to get an answer.

Late-1979, I believe. Dunno what month, but that year stands out from a conversation I had many years ago. IIRC, Jim dubbed the new lectern G2T2, in reference to both Star Wars and Goodson-Todman.

I mentioned in this thread below that Jim was calling the original lectern R2-D2.  I recall hearing him do so during the first week of the show.  You certainly could be right about him using the new name for the new lectern; I just assumed the name change was made to avoid possible copyright infringement via parody.

It might have been, since it happened pretty quickly into the run -- Jim called it R2-D2 on both pilots and the first six episodes, then began calling it G2-T2 on May 2, 1978 (show 7).

To answer the OP's question, the question holder was overhauled on October 4, 1979 (show 377) which, per Jim on that show, allowed viewers to keep better track of things. The lights were originally white, becoming blue two weeks later on October 18 (show 387).

I never once had trouble keeping track of how many questions were to be played in the game because if Jim didn't say "Sudden Death!" then I look at the carousel and see if it's two or three. The new setup allows the show to have all of that game's questions in the order they want which means they can program the numbers to appear in the order they want without having to change that up on the fly. I don't know how hard that is to do because it went over a year without that being a problem, but it also means that a stagehand can refill that box from the back during the Money Cards without having to pull out the unused questions in each game and keeping them in order.

Yes, that's what Dan88 stated above. Were you testing us or did you already know?
