Title: EBay finds 5/18/15
Post by: Dbacksfan12 on May 18, 2015, 06:10:35 AM
Up late, can't sleep...found a handful of things that caught my eye.

Password Plus  (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Password-Plus-OMNI-Entertainment-System-CIB-Complete-/201347187155?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ee13a41d3) for the Omni Entertainment system.  Includes box and manual.
A photo of a local NYC show called  "Sense and Nonsense"  (http://www.ebay.com/itm/HOLLYWOOD-VINTAGE-PHOTO-OF-SENSE-AND-NONSENSE-EARLY-TV-GAME-SHOW-C-1952-/141669302604?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20fc26014c), hosted by Bob Kennedy.
A ticket to an "ABC Special" of "Family Feud" advertising audience cash prizes. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/FAMILY-FEUD-RICHARD-DAWSON-RARE-ORIGINAL-1978-TV-GAME-SHOW-STUDIO-TICKET-/231229459844?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35d6598d84)
Tickets to the radio game show "Sez Who" (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Authentic-Origonal-2-Sez-Who-CBS-Game-Show-Tickets-w-Envelope-1958-TV-/261169689101?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cceed320d).
A "You Don't Say!" beer stein (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mid-Century-Souvenir-Beer-Stein-Mug-You-Dont-Say-TV-Game-Show-Desilu-/221773590469?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a2bc6fc5).

Great finds, especially the You Don't Say! beer stein. (Seriously, that looks really nice.)

This was aired live on WABD (DuMont's flagship affiliate; one of the station's cameras can be seen at the left side of the photo) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1951-54. There's one episode known to exist, from early '54, and it seems to have a slightly more "polished" set than the one in this photo.

If the existing episode is any indication, it's a shame the show seems to be gone.

Curious as to whether this is the same Bob Kennedy who hosted a morning TV show in Chicago (WLS-TV) when I was a kid, late 1960s until his death at a fairly young age in the mid-'70s.  A real good guy. If I squint just right, it kinda looks like him.

This obit (http://archives.chicagotribune.com/1974/11/07/page/1/article/tvs-bob-kennedy-dies-of-cancer-at-41) says he was a panelist on an NBC radio show at age 15, which would've been late-1940s. According to the obit, he also attended Fordham, which is in the Bronx, so it's very possible.

Nope, it's not the same guy. The game show Bob Kennedy appeared on Broadway on Oklahoma in the 1940s before TV and died in his late 80s or early 90s.

Thanks, Carlisle!  The guy I was familiar with, would have been much younger than the game show host in the early '50s.  I checked the video, and he neither looks nor sounds anything like the host from Chicago (who, by the way, was supposed to become the first host of what ended up as Good Morning America ... but he became seriously ill as that show was getting underway).

The "You Don't Say!" beer stein has been sold, but you still have a chance to buy the matching pitcher (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Souvenir-Pitcher-Desilu-You-Dont-Say-TV-Game-Show-1963-Yagemann-Ralph-Andrews/151659883235?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29904%26meid%3De9ab6643e3b142cdad1605a8b9888c34%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D221773590469) provided that you hate having money.

$59 a month for six months? What a deal!
