From Buzzerblog, GSN has some pretty good stuff lined up this year!
http://www.buzzerblog.com/?p=1413
Here are the highlights:
Christmas Eve will feature a 4 hour PYL marathon with Christmas themed episodes, 7 hour marathon of The Chase, and to end the night GSN will air What's My Line at 25! The rest are featured in the article above.
-
This sounds all well and good, but will the PYL episodes GSN will air for their marathon be from 1985?
That is all I want to know.

Maybe.

Curious question...if the episodes are from 1983 and '84, what happens next?

Nope. If GSN shows 83/84, I will accept it, and carry on with my life.

We'll likely find out next week when the detailed schedule is out, but I don't see why not. As happy as I'll be to see those episodes, I'll just be glad when we don't have to hear about them anymore.
-
Me too.
In all seriousness, this will be the last time I care about what Christmas episodes of what game shows GSN is airing, because there isn't anymore for GSN to acquire from the 70's and 80's, my favorite decades for game shows, with Christmas-themed episodes. I had been doing this since 2006, but not anymore.

...What's My Line? at 25?! Didn't see that coming.
We'll likely find out next week when the detailed schedule is out, but I don't see why not.
Especially since GSN had initially slotted four of them (585-588) for the week of November 10, per the advance schedules. I'm guessing at least those will be in the marathon, but as you said we'll find out in a week or so.

$5 on December 23. because there isn't anymore for GSN to acquire from the 70's and 80's, my favorite decades for game shows, with Christmas-themed episodes. I had been doing this since 2006, but not anymore.
I'm sure there's plenty of shows GSN doesn't currently have the rights to that they could air if they desired. Some of them likely have Christmas-themed episodes.

Until this time next year when you do the exact same thing.
Or at any point in the next year when GSN does something you don't like.
Rep precedes you, Zach, and it ain't going away.

Another thing I noticed was the mention of "TV's Funniest Game Show Moments" during the clip show marathon on Christmas Day. Two specials have gone by that name -- the 1984 one hosted by William Shatner (and produced by Mark Goodson) and a 2000 one narrated by Richard Dawson.
The Shatner one actually seems like a good possibility given they're running another Goodson-produced special the night before. Has GSN ever run the other one?

Oh, really? We said that very same thing years ago when we thought it was unfathomable that GSN would ever acquire any of the Reg Grundy shows. What if, say, GSN suddenly acquires the rights to Scrabble or something like that? There were plenty of "Christmas-themed" episodes of that series. For you to say that there is nothing left for GSN to acquire is preposterous because as the old saying went, "you never know with GSN." I'll just wait for this same argument next year.
I had been doing this since 2006, but not anymore.
Excuse me?!? You had been doing what, exactly? If you're saying what I think you're saying, I've been doing that far longer than you have, but I never griped at GSN for not airing certain shows. In fact, I was exceedingly happy that GSN even acquired Press Your Luck... thirteen years ago now. Fourteen years ago, I never thought in my wildest dreams that GSN would ever acquire a show like that. I never got in a hissy fit that certain episodes got skipped. I was just happy with what was shown, and that was it!
I'm sorry, but if you're referring to the guide, I had been doing this for well over a decade now, and it's been a real labor of love. There isn't ANY obligation to completely finish the guide because I know that'll never happen. You're making this sound like you're entitled to see every episode of PYL there ever was. Please, calm down and just enjoy them, okay?

GSN *COULD* get Scrabble. But then there's the problem with Hasbro, which is tough as nails on its intellectual property.
I do not think it will ever be resolved.
-
Apples and oranges, if I'm not mistaken. Hasbro owns the game Scrabble. The TV show is owned by Fremantle, last I checked, and I don't think Hasbro could say anything if GSN decided to air it.

I thought that Grundy had to get Selchow and Righter's approval to use the name and adapt the game for TV (hence why the game was named in the end credits by Jay Stewart and Charlie Tuna in the closing credits)?
At the very least the rights belong to Fremantle but if I'm right on the second part I'd figure Hasbro, as the successor in interest to S&R, has to have some say in the matter. But then again, why would they not have objected to Scrabble reruns airing on USA for as long as they did?
-
Rights for the name "Scrabble" as a TV property were owned by Exposure Unlimited at the time. The company owning the rights to the game probably didn't mind the reruns airing because they're getting money for it and it's free advertising for the game itself.

Hence why it doesn't make sense for them to object now, if in fact that's what is holding up GSN potentially picking the reruns up. (Which nobody can seem to confirm one way or the other.)
There's a followup...who the hell was Exposure Unlimited?

Well, alright then. Clarification appreciated.

Updates from the official (https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/73654ed5-c7e1-4924-ac9d-1448fc7db5d0) PDF shows the Line/Secret combo continues into the week of December 22nd. The Press Your Luck episodes on Christmas Eve are eight straight from, according to episode guides, December 24, 1985 to January 3, 1986. And lastly, I think, the TV's Funniest Game Show Moments special airing on Christmas will be the '80s one hosted by Bill Shatner.

And #585 (December 23, 1985) airs on December 23. On the non-Christmas side of things, Syndie Sale is currently going to go as far as #S-130.
Anyways, this is going to be a terrific Christmas/New Year's. Still can hardly believe they're getting the Bill Shatner-hosted special.

What a magnificent week. They've picked some really good What's My Line? episodes in my opinion, so I'm looking forward to that. Also, I don't recall as much of IGAS '72, so it will be great to see another week of those as well.
Seriously, this is shaping up to be another wonderful Christmas at GSN. Good job, guys.

Sadly, probably the only time classic TPIR is seen on the network.
-
I know it's not meant in this manner but for a second I read "Match Game Strip" and I said to myself, how loosey goosey was it on that set?
-
I don't know how it is with other carriers, but DirecTv shows the TV's funniest game show moments from 2000 hosted by Richard Dawson

It also says I've Got a Secret is hosted by Bil Dwyer and some episodes will be aired of What Is My Line, where pro bass angler Mike DelVisco looks at the only connection between you and the fish, your line.

I thought the best holiday marathon GSN had was in 2006, when they had the G-T library. They had eps of Family Feud, Body Language, Tattletales and 1990 TTTT, with Lynn Swann hosting, among others.

Here's the low-down on the 12/29/2014-1/4/2015 (http://gameshownetworknews.blogspot.com/2014/12/advanced-schedules-changes-for-december.html#comment-form) schedule.
It'll be "business as usual" on New Year's Eve, except that Let's Ask America will be starting up again with #2001 at 3:30am. I still think a Beat The Clock "Best Stunts of the Year" marathon would have been a great idea on that day.
Cordially,
Tammy
P.S. At least this year we'll finally see the last Press Your Luck installments for 1985.
-
What should also be noted, is that by that schedule GSN is going past episode 130 of syndie $ale. Which means they have gotten more than 65 episodes this time around. Didn't GSN get 80 something episodes when they initially got it before?
-
They had 65 episodes in 2013 from November 1988-March 1989 of the daytime run (Skipping #1503-#1505 from Thanksgiving Week, #1516, #1521-#1530 from Christmas and New Year's, #1534, #1552-#1553, and #1556).
Then they had 65 episodes later that same year from January-April 1985 of the Syndicated run (Skipping #S-016, #S-022, #S-026).
I'm still doing the episode guide that was started by gamed121683, and when GSN reaches the end of the current lease, I will post the information on the rest of the Syndie run (S-#069 and beyond).

I enjoyed the PYL marathon that aired on Christmas Eve. I especially liked the episode that had Peter's daughters.
