Title: Host tapped for "Monopoly Millionaires Club"
Post by: colonial on August 06, 2014, 04:05:19 PM
Deadline.com is reporting that "Mike and Molly" actor Billy Gardell has been named the host of the upcoming weekly lottery game "Monopoly Millionaires Club."

Deadline says the show is premiering in syndication next year.  Please ignore the sentence in the article that claims "Club" is "the first such pairing of a lottery and a TV game show". :)

Interesting choice...not really seeing Billy Gardell as emcee material but why not give it a try? He might prove me wrong.

Not that hard: I can just ignore the whole show.  ;)

“I’ve played Monopoly with friends and family since 1979,” said Gardell.

Yeah, that's about how long it takes.

Which busts it down to two hours or so, sure. Then it only *feels* like forever.

Me and some grad school friends once played Monopoly by the actual rules.  The game took 45 minutes.  We concluded that the biggest time-waster is ignoring the "auction if player doesn't buy" rule.  Now money is changing hands and some property trades are occurring.

Really?  I don't remember properties going to auction that much at all - we pretty much bought every property we landed on back when my friends and I played 45-minute games of Monopoly all summer.  In 30-40 games, I could count the number of auctions I saw on one hand (and we were in fact playing with them).

The true time-saver is trading as quickly as possible and buying as many houses as quickly as possible.  That, plus the fact that we eventually had every space on the board and every property card memorized.
