Post by: Jamey Greek on June 10, 2014, 12:20:50 PM
Paul Goebel is thinking about shooting a pilot for a new game show called Ubergeek.

His partner promotes something called "The Air Sex World Championships" in his bio, and is "best known" for...a pilot.

Just to give you an idea of what level of professionalism we're dealing with here.

He should sell some more medals and robes...

I didn't even get out of the preliminaries.

I'm preserving my amateur status for Rio in 2016.

What's unfortunate (besides the fact that Paul is putting himself out as host and I think that's a terrible idea, and the level of professionalism as noted) is that I love the idea. I would have made some changes to the original BTG game. I'd be happy to watch or buy access or whatever but I'm too suspicious of the KS model to say "here, have some money with no strings." I go back to what I've said before: I'm happy to buy an equity percentage (even on a per-myriad level) but I'm not just going to give over my bucks, even if it's "in support" of a game show.

Well, the point of the KS model is that it's only as good as the people running the project. From a technical standpoint it all runs through Amazon Payments and is quite secure.

Really you can take KS out of the equation entirely and ask yourself "am I OK with giving Paul Goebel $20 (or whatever) on his promise that he will use the money to fund a pilot?" If the answer is no, then don't do it.

All KS does is add "and it only happens if a bunch of other people say yes as well" to the equation.

(Considering this is the same guy who was making money from robes and medals, my answer is an emphatic "no," but YMMV.)

Another concern I have is what type of pilot will he have with $15,000?  That number seems like it's missing at least one zero.

At that price, most likely only one that flies planes.
