Outside of that one recurring role he had on a sitcom back in the 90s, has Bob ever had a role where he didn't play himself?

Yes, he was "Mort" in an episode of Bonanza in 1960. The episode was called "Denver Mc.Kee", for those that haven't seen it. Let's just say that the character he played on the show wasn't TOO much of a stretch, acting-wise.

Because he was a Wild West game-show host, or because he was porking all of the models?

Neither. Betty White played someone who rescued several horses but "Mort" had Betty's character offed so he could take the credit for it.
