Title: Carl Kassel retiring from "Wait Wait"
Post by: DrBear on March 04, 2014, 01:40:19 PM
The exquisite, charming-beyond-compare Carl Kasell to retire from @waitwait this spring; will be Scorekeeper Emeritus http://n.pr/NRktVR

Good for him, quite an impressive career in radio. Hopefully I'll be able to get tickets to one of his last shows.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bill Kurtis replaces him full time; he did quite a good job at the taping I attended, and I couldn't really see any of the regular panelists giving up their places to be scorekeeper.

Bill Kurtis is certainly the odds-on favorite, though as a listener I haven't been overly fond of his approach.  He's trying a little too hard to be funny, as opposed to Kasell mostly playing it straight.

I wouldn't mind Bill's voice on my answering machine.

I wouldn't mind Bill's voice on my answering machine.

Actually, if the linked article is anything to go by, Carl will continue doing the answering machine messages, even if he isn't actually appearing on the show each week.

I wouldn't mind Bill's voice on my answering machine.

I've had Bill's voice on my answering machine three times now and it's quite exquisite.

The last time the message went something like "I don't want to have to call the police but I will."

It's a press release from NPR themselves. I'm gonna go ahead and assume it's something to go by.
