Title: My game show site to end next year.
Post by: Winkfan on November 20, 2013, 01:14:46 PM
I received an e-mail from Verizon saying my "web space service has been decommissioned." This means that my website, "Those Groovy Game Shows" will join other game show sites as "a thing of the past." My site will remain up until September 30, 2014.

I'm sorry to break this news to you. I hope you have enjoyed your visits there over the years. And thank you for your support.

Good thing I printed my sections.....

Cordially (but very unhappily), :'(
Tammy

P.S. On the other hand, there's still "Internet Archive."

I have enjoyed your informative site in the past. Sad to see it go.

That\'s a shame.  I really enjoyed the site.

There\'s plenty of free hosting sites still around.

Count me as one who wasn\'t even aware Tammy\'s site was still operating.

This. Granted, not all free hosting sites are the same, but moving your site (http://mysite.verizon.net/reszuh21/) (which, by the way, is a very fun read) would be a lot better than seeing it go.

Tammy, at the very least you should save your pages as computer files and not just printed records.  Then if you decide to start it up again somewhere else, you won\'t have to recreate everything virtually from scratch.

Well, I did save all my photos on a flash-drive stick. The written stuff that I printed I could jot down again. And besides, my site's only gonna be up unitl September of next year; so we still have time to enjoy it.

Right now, I have thought about other site arenas to re-launch my site. Weebly seems like a good choice. I definitely won't go with AngelFire or Tripod, too many pop-ups, or so I hear. I have to get in touch with the Verizon people to go over it.

UPDATE: I'm taking your advice, Matt and am now saving the written portions on my flash drive stick along with the photos I already have on there.

Cordially,
Tammy

My current site is on http://www.webs.com/ .  That\'s been OK so far.

A thought: Maybe someone with some webspace available on their site could host this for you... if it\'s not frequently updated, then it wouldn\'t be a big deal.

I do this on my site for one of my model train friends-- his content is a natural complement to what I already had, so when AOL blew up the \'Homestead\' pages he was able to transfer all the files to me.  There were a few kinks to work out but all went OK and now his work is available again.

I have plenty of space. I\'d be more than happy to host it.
