Jim Perry retired from the TV industry after the final tapings of $ale of the Century here in the U.S.A. and Definition in Canada in 1989, and never worked in television again.
However, it seemed, at least for a moment, that he was planning a comeback, four years later, in 1993. While visiting the cool Game Show Tickets album on TVPMM\'s Facebook, I came upon a ticket to a taping of an unsold pilot called Lottery Cash Explosion.

I don\'t think broadcasters who love what they do ever turn down a chance to work.
I think there\'s a difference between \"never worked again\" and \"retired\". I may be wrong, but I don\'t remember Jim Perry saying in 1989 or 1990 that he\'s decided to retire from television. Maybe he didn\'t try as hard, or maybe things didn\'t break his way, and maybe years later he decided to tell everybody he retired in 1989 because it sounded better than \"I couldn\'t get work\". Since your evidence suggests that he was perfectly willing to work, I don\'t think \"retired\" is the right choice of words.
Here\'s a link to an episode of Studs, where Jim Perry mentions about host Mark DeCarlo being SOTC\'s biggest winner.

In more recent years, there were commercials on TV for a product called Biotene--a mouthwash and \"dry-mouth\" treatment. I sometimes thought the guy in the commercial reminded me of Jim Perry. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0A8c-f9Sbk

Interestingly enough, for years, I thought the guy in the New York Carpet World ads was Jim...

Actually the guy in the Biotene commercial is a Canadian personality named Brian Wood. He has been with CHCH since 1985 but does some other commercial work and other productions.

All the better, as Jim wouldn\'t be in place trying to pitch \"the green stuff\" (which you can identify if you look at the label with a micro...)

The man you are referring to is Irving Nusbaum.
