I was actually curious about how many places Wheel has shot over the years...and here\'s what I came up with:
Seattle
Portland
San Francisco
San Diego
Las Vegas
Denver
Phoenix
Dallas
Houston
Chicago
Nashville
Atlanta
New Orleans
Miami
Orlando
Charleston SC
Norfolk VA (The Aircraft carrier week, right)
DC
Pittsburgh
Columbus
Philadelphia
NYC
Boston
Hawaii
Norfolk was indeed aboard an aircraft carrier (the Eisenhower)
Didn\'t they tape at the Ohio State Fair or something one time around \'96?
Season Premiere week, August 1997.

2 weeks, actually, including the \'97 season premiere week with union members. That\'s the Columbus trip to which Ben refers.
ETA: Or maybe it was 3 weeks. The season premiere week was taped on a Friday. I was there that Saturday for several tapings of the 2nd week. I don\'t recall if they taped a third week of shows on Sunday. I\'m heavily leaning towards just two weeks in C-bus.
I wonder why they never have come here to St. Louis, MO. The show has aired faithfully on the same time and channel for nearly 30 years.
I\'ve had at least one person confirm that they did shows on location at the Ohio State Fair just before the syndie version started. MikeK: The Ohio State Fair weeks that began Season 15 indeed ran for two weeks.
I\'m pretty sure I\'ve nailed all the road shows on my wiki, so here goes:
* Atlanta (Fox Theater, May and July 1996 — no, that\'s not a typo, they really did do new episodes in July that year)
* Boston (Wang Center, May 1993; Boston Convention & Exhibit Center, November 2009)
* Charleston (Charleston Area Convention Center, February 2007)

* Fort Lauderdale (Broward County Convention Center, January/February 2006)
* Hollywood (Disney/MGM Studios, April and May 1994)

It was in recognition of the Summer Olympics, held in (wait for it) Atlanta that year.
*Newport NewsNorfolk (Dwight D. Eisenhower hangar deck, May 1995)
Fixed.
Why would they be at the Ohio State Fair in 1983, for the first syndie tapings? Was it for a test-run of episodes before the show could begin stripping on the 19th of September?
^ That would be my first guess. Seems back in the a.t.g-s days, someone heard Pat corroborate the info during a commercial break at the 1997 Ohio tapings. He said that the 1983 tapings went poorly. (I can\'t find the post at the moment, though.)
I find it interesting that something like this would\'ve slipped into the dustbin.

(I can't find the post at the moment, though.)I'm not sure if there was anything in the ATGS days, but it was brought up on this forum back in March (http://www.gameshowforum.org/index.php/topic,24332.msg305225.html#msg305225). Funnily enough, the post above that is you quoting Don Howard stating that WEWS debuted Wheel with said Ohio State Fair episodes.
I find it interesting that something like this would've slipped into the dustbin. In fairness, based on what That Don Guy said back in 2011 (http://www.gameshowforum.org/index.php/topic,22067.msg265829.html#msg265829), Wheel also did a week specifically for the San Francisco market early in Season 10 while they were taping there. You'd think they would've turned up when GSN aired that season.

Are you sure he wasn\'t being sarcastic?

I would love a little more firm of an account than the two in that particular thread.
I\'m one of the sources for this information and I remember vividly what Pat said about the shows.
However, seeing how sarcastic Pat can be and for the lack of information known about these episodes, I’ve even began to question if the episodes ever happened.
I’ve emailed both the Columbus Library and the Ohio State Fair to see if they can provide any insight, and I will let you know what I hear.
I\'d also suggest contacting WEWS if you haven\'t already to see if the episodes are in their archive.
I would love a little more firm of an account than the two in that particular thread.I think I found it per Variety (8/10/83 Weekly, Page 54). Searching for "Ohio State Fair" Wheel brought part of this up, and a bit more digging got this:
WBNS-TV plans to air more than 40 hours of programs from the Ohio State Fair, including two syndicated shows that will be taped at the station's pavilion. The noon editions of the news will air live from the pavilion on weekdays during the fair; the syndicated gameshow "Wheel Of Fortune" will be taped there on Aug. 18-19 and "The 20-Minute Workout" will be taped there on Aug. 9-10.So there you go. :)
You may also want to contact WKEF and WKBW, as they apparently also aired these shows...and WBNS, which I\'ll explain in a bit.

Yeah, and another thing I would like to address:
When it was first announced that there would be a Syndicated edition earlier that same year, they said that there would be 39 weeks of first-run episodes, followed by 13 weeks of repeats. This is according to issues of Broadcasting Magazine. It\'s possible that those OSF episodes were done after the actual first Syndie tapings (the ones in Burbank), and were done just for fun, for local station purposes.
Oh, and here\'s a testimony from Paul E. Schindler, Jr. He was a contestant on episode 52 of the syndicated version. It doesn\'t say much, but he mentions the taping date of his episode as August 28, 1983. I guess it might help pin-point the actual date of the first Syndie tapings.

It's possible that those OSF episodes were done after the actual first Syndie tapings (the ones in Burbank), and were done just for fun, for local station purposes.I don't think it was ever disputed that they were meant solely for the Ohio markets, because it's pretty clear they were. I'm pretty sure they were not done "just for fun", or at least the only definition that comes to mind (no actual money or prizes awarded/stuff awarded but not the same budget as the Burbank-produced shows), though.
When it was first announced that there would be a Syndicated edition earlier that same year, they said that there would be 39 weeks of first-run episodes, followed by 13 weeks of repeats.Everything I've seen about the Season 1 package stated "39 first-run weeks and 13 weeks of repeats" with no "followed by" -- the first two rerun weeks were during the season (one in late December or early January, the other in March or April), with the remainder being in the Summer.

This:
On August 28, 1983, 3 weeks prior to the Syndicated versions\' debut, Paul Schindler, Jr. appeared during a taping of the show as contestant no. 3. No. 1 and no. 2 were two females (Francine and Kim respectively), and the episode was designated as Show #52. The first tapings of this version in Burbank, California were presumably a month prior to this.
I thought Wikipedia had a \"talk\" page where the two of you could resolve quarrels like this.
This is actually on my Wheel of Fortune History Wiki, but talk pages still exist there. Either way, I\'ve restored his edit.
Now I see you put it back. And I've removed it because it's badly-written and redundant, especially since the placement of #S-052 already mentions the player names and recording date.

Daniel, you stated your edit much better than I did. Thank you.

Again, this is an unofficial wiki on Wikia, not Wikipedia. But I suppose the \"serious business\" still applies. :D

I thought this board has a \"report\" button to complain to operators instead of moderating suggestions like the above.

Well, we have been told to not bother the owner with little things and settle them amongst ourselves...

Lemme guess. Behind the Scenes isn\'t accessible to moderated members?

This is why I love this place. We have the most interesting threadjacks.
Here is what I received back from both inquiries:
The Columbus Library informed me that Wheel of Fortune was at the 1983 Ohio State Fair, according to the book: A History of the Ohio State Fair by C. La Von Shook. They attached some scanned pages from the book, where the author only mentions the show\'s 1983 visit in a brief sentence from the 1997 Fair section of the book, when the show also visited. They also searched our Columbus News Index database for 1983 and were not able to find any mention of the show at the Fair that year.
A staffer from the Ohio State Fair supplied me with this great response (sarcasm):
\"I simply did a web search through Google and put in “wheel of fortune at ohio state fair”.
This is what I found.
August 1983:
Now I\'ve got a request into WBNS and we\'ll see if there\'s anyone at the station who thinks this 30 year old topic warrants a response.
I received more today, this time from the Ohio State Fair Historian who said:
\"Yes, the Wheel was at the Fair in 1997 and taped a week\'s worth of shows. I don\'t have any info on the show having been on the grounds in 1983. My notes indicate the show appeared 15 years earlier which was the first year the show was produced. Further, that 1983 show was referred to as a regional show and played out at the WBNS TV Booth.\"

You\'re right. I saw Disney/MGM and thought of this place (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_Hollywood_Studios).
