I could've sworn that most of these were 2002.

We left ATGS for Ezboard in December 2002, but moved to Invision in June 2003. The APril Fool's GSN host switcheroo was this year, as were the other events(if "switching to roots" means Squares going to straddled two-of-three game format and Feud going to a set point value to win rule)

I was going to say something like "the year we lose a lot of notable names". Sadly, that happens every year, but the losses of Rod Roddy, Lynne Thigpen (Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?), John Ritter (civilian contestant on The Dating Game), and of course, Bob Hope--among lots of others--seem bigger than other recent years.

Add Bill Carruthers to the list of game show notables who left us this year(dying two weeks before the Larsen documentary, his last TV interview, debuted on GSN)

"The year 2003 will be most remembered -- as the year Junkyard Wars ended up as pure video junk!"
While it may be stretching things to call TLC's Junkyard Wars a "game show" (even though Scrapheap Challenge, its sister show in the U.K., has managed to get listed on "The U.K. Game Show Site"), they nevertheless failed to learn the lesson of the 2001 version of Card Sharks that was hosted by Pat Bullard. (In short: Never change a winning game -- always change a losing game!)
For its "Season 11" that started on August 27, 2003, they went to an all new format that was dubbed "Retooled, Re-engineered, Reborn" that ended up being overwhelingly re-jected by its past legion of loyal fans that admired the show for its engineering brainwork. (Instead, it was the brawn of their permanent team captains, "Bowser" and "Crash," that got all the emphasis, and the only episode from that series I wanted to keep was one on which a Hebron, Kentucky, firefighter appeared, countering the appearances from a couple of area Survivor alumni.
Thankfully, after that season of Junkyard Wars came to its merciful end on October 8, 2003 (with, believe it or not, a "balloon busters" challenge!), TLC rushed back to the States some "re-badged" episodes from the latest season of Scrapheap Challenge in the U.K. (and which had been only minimally changed from its previous seasons), which all of us Junkyard Wars fans in the U.S. were very happy to see!

The year will be remembered for losing all of those great celebrites that were on game shows, as well as losing Rod Roddy. Of course, this was the year we finally got a female game show Millionaire(Nancy Christy), as well as produce future game show legends alike.

Well, providing Feud has continual success, then it will be remembered as the year that Feud became a winning show again (ratings and gameplay wise).
If not....then it will be remembered purely for Gigli

The Chair and the Chamber were 2002, if not 2001.

This would also be the time, where for the first time ever, we'd see Lisa Achtenstein become the first WOMAN ever to bomb out on the first question on the US version of Millionaire (Robby Roseman, as we know, was the first MAN to bomb out on the first question.
She'd redeem herself on the "Return of the $0 Winners" special week and win $1,000.

I think I saw that it's in the lobby at GSN world headquarters in Santa Monica.

What about the 2 winners of 100k on WOF? Pretty big for game show news, I'd say. And the numerous TPIR prime time shows that drew big time ratings.

For those who don't know, there is a person behind the scenes in the Rod situation that hasn't been given his due. His name is Lawrence Segal who was a former intern on TPIR.
I've met him before and he's a great guy. He basically quit everything he was doing to take care of Rod 24/7. His parents even shut down their business to move to California to be with him.

Bob had him on camera during Season 30 during an ep that taped on his B-Day, which Bob acknowledged.

2003 also brought us the first 6-game winner on Jeopardy!

And 2003 marked the first year of Wheel finally going out of its roots, and into something new:
COMPUTERIZED COLOR LIGHTING! And some new colors, too, to other things.
Yep, those gold accents that we grew up watching are now history. The spikes on the puzzle board have been taken down, the front game Wheel's light bulbs are gone, and the Bonus Wheel's lettering has gone from red to blue, and the colors, are darker.
