Title: Closest to your date of birth
Post by: Jay Temple on June 23, 2012, 12:32:13 AM
When GSN was running the primetime Password, one of the eps was dated November 28, 1963, one day before I was born. Who here has seen something that aired on their actual date of birth? For everyone else, what's the closest you've seen?

Would have to be the premiere of 80s Sale, which aired three weeks before I was born. Would've been two if I wasn't such a stubborn resident of my mom's womb.

Given that I've seen darn near all of Card Sharks and Password Plus, probably those. Since Blockbusters began October 27, the hurdle is two months and two days.

I was born one day prior to when Bob Barker's first permanent gray-hair day aired.

The episode of Now You See It which aired on GSN the day Jack Narz died originally aired on the day I was born.  GSN has also aired the Match Game 75 from the day I was born.

Proof or not real.

I don't follow airdates too closely, but as far as I can remember, the closest thing to my birthdate (11-18-82) would be Clark's "Pyramid" reruns on USA or GSN. I was born right after it became "The New..."

Proof or not real.
Consider the source.  Plus, if HR = High Rollers, it was off the air in June 1980.

Neat question (when understood correctly, which of course Erik didn't do).  I was born 6/11/60, which was a Saturday that, I believe, didn't feature any game shows at all.  How sad.  The closest one that would be available to see today would probably be the next night's WML? with Van Johnson, but I don't appear to have that one in my collection.  So the best I can do is three days before my birth, the Wednesday night edition of I've Got A Secret with Anthony Perkins (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMGlsR20uLU").

I was born January 5th, 1983.  Two days after Plinko, Just Men!, Hit Man, & $ale of the Century premiered.

The tube top incident on TPIR and Shatner's chair throwing on $20,000 Pyramid happened on September 14,1977, only 5 days before I was born.

Closest that I have on tape appears to be a July 1962 episode of What's My Line? with Willie Mays and Paul Anka as Mystery Guests.

Both To Tell the Truth and I've Got a Secret would likely have aired the night of my birth, but I don't have the episodes.

My mother would have loved to have seen Love of Life from that day (given it aired at the time I was actually born, she wouldn't have seen it live) - star Audrey Peters was an old friend of hers.

Exact same date of birth here. I don't have anything I can precisely date, but I think there's a decent chance that I've seen the New $25,000 Pyramid episode from that date or very close to it (it was about 16 weeks into the run) in reruns at some point and not known it.

Having looked over Kris Lane's Pyramid guide, I didn't realize it became "The New..." exactly 10 days before I was born; I always thought it changed in October 1982. I definitely remember watching a USA rerun from that week (Barbara Bosson and Barry Gordon), and they played a portion of a song Barry recorded as a child (Dick also held up the album cover). Given I watched Pyramid pretty regularly after school, I'm almost positive I watched my birthday week (Linda Kelsey and Rick Hurst) without even knowing it.

One interesting note about that first week, the new logo on Dick's podium was actually a sharp-looking triangle, where the tip actually peaked above the podium itself...

Out of curiosity, I went to YouTube to view a video.  In my quick search, I didn't find it, but found an ep. from 1984 with an announcer that I don't recognize. (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QeZgTuRLVo")  Whoever he is, he sounds like he just got done watching a PBS telethon.

Jack Clark.  The first show that aired after I was born 10/27/60 (Thursday) was "Dough Re Mi."  The first one that I may have seen on GSN was probably WML for that Sunday.

Closest I have to mine is the 11/14/65 ep of WML (I was born three days earlier).  Notable episode as it turns out, as it was the first one following Dorothy Kilgallen's death.

9/6/84 was a Thursday, so a number of game shows were on, but the only one I've seen that actually aired that day is Press Your Luck. Price and nighttime Wheel would still have been in reruns... Jeopardy, Super Password, and Body Language had not yet premiered. Sale of the Century and Scrabble haven't been seen in reruns in a few decades. Family Feud may have been new on that date, but I haven't seen much from that part of the run.

On a semi-unrelated note though, I'm told the morning after I was born, my mom was feeding me in her hospital room while "we" watched an I Love Lucy rerun. I still love Lucy even until this day.

Body Language had actually been on the air for 3 months by that point, it was 6/4/84 that it premiered. It's entirely possible you did see that day's BL (if you like it) somewhere along the line..

Closest I've got was October 27, 1985. A bunch of shows have aired during that time, but the episode I've seen (on GSN no less) was the premiere of Blockbusters.

March 17, 1990 was a Saturday, so probably no joy there, but when GSN was rerunning Combs Feud back in 03, that was the 1990 season, so I wouldn't be surprised if the March 16 episode was in there somewhere.

Thanks to GSN, or what it used to be, I saw (and taped) a To Tell The Truth installment from the night I was born (7/2/1962). The panel that night was comprised of Tom Poston, Gretchen Wyler, Richard Hayes, and Mimi Benzell.

Cordially,
Tammy

According to this (http://"http://web.archive.org/web/20021022113723/www.mounet.com/~genzone/episodeguides/bodylanguage/blepguide1.html"), it was Jenilee Harrison and Marty Cohen.

I was born on Sunday, September 22, 1974, when there were no game shows airing. But I'm 99% certain I've seen, on GSN, the episode of "Match Game '74" that aired Monday, September 23, roughly 30 hours after I was born.  (Don't think I've ever seen any of the other shows that aired on that date, except maybe syndie "WML?", depending on market.)

One you could conceivably have seen was NYSI (that would have been in the midst of Lyn Heath's run).

This is tougher for us really old guys.   On my birthday, Nov. 1, 1955, the daytime shows were "Feather Your Nest," "Strike it Rich" (ick), "The Big Payoff" and "On Your Account."  In prime time, after "Name That Tune,"  the Rev. Alvin Kershaw of Oxford, Ohio, walked away with $32,000 on "The $64,000 Question."  My chances of seeing that episode are pretty slim, I'd reckon.

July 19, 1988 here... The only thing I know of in first-run at the time would be Combs Feud, although I'm sure someone will prove me wrong.

The closest episode I know I've seen would be Combs' premiere episode from 7/4.

July 12, 1962 here...and thanks to Shokus video, I have the Seven Keys episode that aired on that day a mere 4 hours after I was born. The cool part is the copy has all the commercials, plus the slate (which said Tape Date: 7-9-62/ Air Date: 7-12-62)

Ah, yes, although I've only seen a handful of NYSI episodes on GSN, which is why I didn't mention it -- but I'm almost positive I've seen all of MG '74, and have seen major portions of syndie WML?.

The oldest in general is the nighttime premiere from 1/2/62.  The oldest daytime show is the first one in color from 9/12/66.

There's a whole week of Pyramid shows on Youtube from 9/2-9/6/85, which includes my birthday of 9/3/85. Haven't been able to see anything else...TPiR was still in summer reruns, likely the same with Wheel and J!.

/It was also the first week of Dan Rather's infamous "Courage" sign-off...as well as the last...
