I'm looking for some dice to purchase for a project that I have going on...more like the big dice from High Rollers (Trebek or Martindale), The Big Showdown or even Yahtzee. Does anyone know where I can find some to purchase? Thanks.

When I was a youth I had a set of Sportcraft Hi-Roller lawn dice. There was a pair of white and yellow dice, and they were the friendly-foam type, which meant they rolled quietly, and if you wanted to play a game of Spud with a randomized call-out, you have that.
Other'n that, eBay I guess.

Or you could get creative and go to a craft store, purchase foam and cut the foam to make your own.

This would also solve the "Chinese 2" problem that seems to plague most of these dice.

I immediately thought of the lawn dice Travis described, but gameshowcrazy's suggestion is just as feasible, and could prolly save you a few bucks.

Koplow Games (http://"http://www.koplowgames.com") sells big dice but not to the public directly. Find the dice you want on the web site and find a FLGS (friendly local gaming store) to order it for you.

These look like fun. (http://"http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unofficial-Dungeon-Dragon-Large-Foam-Dice-Lot-of-6-2-of-ea-Purple-Red-Blue-/190669941405?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c64d06a9d") I don't think you'll beat eight bucks (free shipping) for three pair.

Not foam dice (and those are a different kind of foam than the lawn dice), but the absolute gem of my collection is a set of four wet-erase dice. Each face has its own erasable board, so you can write whatever you want the dice to do, wipe 'em and do it again. Plus they fit nicely in my elephantine hands, so that's nice.

All of a sudden I'm getting GSC4 flashbacks...

You might want to check educational supply stores and websites too...

Dry erase dice? I could imagine those could make for quite the perverted game of Yahtzee.

Also check out your local Dollar Tree. They've had large foam dice recently - however, if this is a video project, you might object to the words "made in china" on the "one" side of the die. Heck...you just might not like it in general, but it may be worth a look.

If they're foam dice, it seems like it would be minimal work to make that "made in china" go away. A little scraping or Dremel-ing, and Bob's your uncle.

Would it even take that? Wouldn't just a little Liquid Paper do the job for video purposes?

Depending on the color of the dice, maybe. If they were white, prolly. (And even if not, a can of spray paint and a Sharpie and now not only are they white, but the Chinese 2 problem goes away AND if you want to pip them in a certain style (I could provide High Rollers pictures if someone wanted) you could.

The colors are Patriotic...like Red and Blue (with White dots). Please provide High Rollers' pics

Does anybody know how big those dice on High Rollers and The Big Showdown were? That's kind of what I'm looking for. I'll try EBay. Does anyone else know though?

I'll do this, I'll link the ones I already took, and that really should be enough to get you the rest of the way.
From this (http://"http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=21720") thread:
http://sdrv.ms/KnUwcF (Chrome doesn't seem to like the link too much, but IE and FireFox parse it fine.)
I'll probably unshare them soon because the world doesn't need to be in that folder, so get 'em while they're hot.

As it happens, I know exactly how big the HR dice are, for obvious reasons. They are 3 1/4" on a side.

the Chinese 2 problem
What exactly does this mean?

the Chinese 2 problem
What exactly does this mean?
On a normal die the two pips are at opposite diagonal corners of the die face. On Chinese dice (like what you'd find in a mah jong set) have the two pips orbiting the center of the face, and they're tucked inside as opposed to out at the edges. (If the die face was divvided up like a bingo card, mark off the second and fourth N spaces on your card. That's a Chinese die. On a regular die it would be B-1 and O-5, or B-5 and O-1.
-
What exactly does this mean?
Chinese-made dice tend to have the two-face with the pips marked horizontally as opposed to diagonally. (Like, in the middle of a side rather than at the corners.) They also are often marked in red as opposed to whatever the normal pip color for that die is because two is considered a lucky number. I find it annoying because if I'm going to do a project that calls for huge novelty dice, I'm probably looking for verite, but since most of the huge novelty dice are made in China (just like huge novelty everything else), they tend to have the screwed-up two-face.
EDIT: Travis's addition about the pips being inset a little is an excellent point as well.
-
Aha, thanks to both of you. Much appreciated!

You said 3 1/4"..is that centimeters, millimeters or inches???

Please don't answer that, Chris.

Inches. The other two would've been nearly impossible to use on TV. :-)

Excuse me for that "stupid question"...I just needed clarification.

For one, using quote marks like that denotes inches. For two: three millimeters would be about a tenth of an inch. Three centimeters would be an inch or so.

The Lawn Dice set I had as a kid were plastic, not foam. I think we had the Chinese 2, but not sure.
FAUX EDIT: Found a set on eBay. (http://"http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item3f16303102&item=270955196674&nma=true&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&rt=nc&si=CPaTYhafzmwE8JXhsX84OkK4ZbQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc") Does indeed have the Chinese 2 (and note how conspiculously none of the dice on the box have their '2' face showing....)
Sadly, there's none on the 'bay for sale right now, and they're 3.5", not 3.25", but I think you'd find that to be close enough.

Or almost any production of GUYS AND DOLLS: "I had the spots removed...for luck."

Lawn Darts are completely awesome, and only if you're a total moron would you be in any danger of hurting yourself, or putting other people in danger. If you use them improperly or are an idiot, then yes, you can be in a bad way in a damn hurry.
Along with a sealed copy of Ticket to Ride for eight bucks, a set of lawn darts might be my best thrift/rummage sale purchase.

Hey, I hate to revive a dead thread, but if you're looking for big dice, these guys might be able to help:
http://www.kardwell.com/page/KII/CTGY/DICE-JUMBO-200
They sell up to 2 inches in size
They also sell five-inch wooden dice:
http://www.kardwell.com/page/KII/CTGY/DICE-JUMBO-5IN
and four-inch super-jumbo plastic dice (though these cost a pretty penny)
